OS Daily Tuesday 17th September 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

• Good morning everyone :)

Not in a good place due to conniving HR and lying management but still we fight on

That's all I am saying as I hate being negative, it's bad for my karma and my health!

Does anyone else use Aldi's own washing up liquid, Magnum? If so, don't buy the new cheaper per ml litre bottles. It appears to be a different much thinner formulation and smells different too. It's rubbish :o

Off I go with well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

LW Hope that you are having a great holiday.

Molly, HH, Hilstep, Halight, PP, Jools Hugs.

Really busy at work yesterday. Full days teaching and 2 meetings! hope that today is a little quieter.

Chilli for tea tonight.

Have a lovely day everyone.:)
• Good Morning everyone .I'm wide awake this morning for some reason,
The Lazy Beer can chicken from M&S was gorgeous and I have a huge bit left over.I can't use it tonight as I am off to the pub for a quiz and we get a meal there thrown in with the price so I have wrapped in cling film and it will do for tomorrow nights dinner.
No doubt about it M&S do give you a fair amount of food from their meals.I really liked it, especially as it was quite reduced to £2.20 :):) Must be my bargain of the week.

Well I woke before 6 this morning and it looks as though the summer's really gone as it was black as Newgates Knocker outside.Looking out now I can just about see the River Medway in the distance and the sky is looking decidedly grey, and very low clouds so that portends rain today.
I don't need a weather forcast just watching the river you can usually tell what sort of day its going to be.

I'm glad I managed to get my washing dry beteen the showers yesterday. No time this morning to iron though, as I have a coffee morning to host for U3A.

I started reading a new Linwood Barclay book last night and it seems quite good, so I shall carry on with that after lunch today before picking up the boys from school this afternoon.

The autumn is galloping on, and at the moment I haven't put the heating on but I'm sure it won't be long.

Hope all the poorlies are feeling a bit better today.and if your feeling a bit low have a virtual <<hug>>

My friend's DD hopefully will give birth to her IVF twins next week so I'm looking forward to some cuddles off new-borns.If she hasn't gone into labour she will have a caesarian on the 25th.They are estimated at the moment to be around 5lbs each so they are a good size.

Nothing like a new born to bring out the soppiness in us all:):) I just love the smell of them and looking at each little miracle and wondering what sort of life and person they will become. You can tell I'm daft about little ones.My youngest had five, and each one I was daft over :):)
My yougest DDs ma-in-law hasn't a maternal bone in her body and treats children as a neccesary evil almost.Luckily my DD doesn't see her often, even though she only lives half an hour away.
DDs four sons have never been to their 'other' Grannies house ever, yet they almost live in mine :):) bless them

I know I make a fuss of them but to me that's half of the fun of being a grandma.Still each to their own I suppose.Well this chuntering on won't get the day started ,time I got a wriggle, and the kettle on
Have a good day what ever you are doing and don't forget your brollies if your going out
Cheers chums

Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Quite bright with some cloud but a nip in the air here this morning.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, and using up a few odds and ends - at least they didn't end up in the bin. Tonight will be spag bol. If I get time tonight I will put the jam and cream filling in a sponge cake that I made on Friday - the menfolk can then have some as dessert.

Work truly was a manic Monday although to start off (probably the first 20-30 mins) we were quite quiet, then it was just continuous and relentless - at 1 point we had all the waiting area seats full, people queuing down the walls and a queue at the Reception desk that went back to the entrance doors! It's no wonder we have people going off sick - we can only do what we can do and the enquiries seem to be getting longer - so it's taking us longer for us to deal with each customer. I'm just keeping calm and carrying on as the saying goes! It'll be interesting to see what today brings!

Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone

It's raining pouring here today so the poor girls are going to have a very soggy walk to school. I'm going to be staying in all day as my lovely friend is coming over with some paints and we are going to make some small canvases for the living room. I'm a bit arty-farty so I'm really looking forward to this morning.:D

I'm going to make spinach and bacon spaghetti for tea, I love this as it cooks in 10 minutes but my hubby can't eat this as he's lactose intolerant and I use creme fraiche as the sauce. I've bought him a little steak pie though so he'll be very happy!

I've been awake since 4.45am so I will have to have 40 winks later this afternoon! I don't know why I can't sleep later in the morning, once my bladder wakes me up that's it, no more sleep for me :(.

JackieO, I absolutely love being a granny too. There is nothing better than a big hug from a small child. I've told the girls I expect 4 grandchildren from each of them :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. They're not so keen surprisingly enough :D. It's sad but my own mum doesn't bother with the girls even though she only lives a couple of miles away. She just doesn't like children and she doesn't really like me either. I used to feel very resentful about it but now I can see it's her loss.

Anyway, that's all my rambling for now, Take care and gentle hugs for all who would like one.
Cheers m'dears x
• Morning all

Chilly start today, woke up very cold indeed! Not supposed to rain until later so may get the towels on the line and dried before work today.

Im going to make some Damson jam this morning with the spoils from my walk yesterday.

Hugs to those who need or would like one :)

Have a good day

Morning all,

I too love being a granny as well as a mum, my DGS Oscar came for tea after his first full day at school yesterday. He loved every minute polished off his tea and pudding and then conked out in the car on the way home bless:D
dumpling I can't find anything suitable for my living room wall as its so big so I was thinking of doing a canvas as well but I really don't know where to start. Let us know how you get on.
I've woke up with a funny arm this morning, my hands aching and throbbing, its not numb like I've slept on it just sore tingly and tender, no idea why. I've just stripped the bed and had to mainly use my left hand:eek:
Well another lunch with family today. It's been awful sticking to my diet with all the socialising but I've tried:o brothers hire car goes back today he flies home on Thursday but its been lovely having him.
Tea at my sons and his gf this evening. Really looking forward to getting back to normal planning and cooking healthy food, all these meals out and takeaways feel very wasteful although I've not paid for much at all.
I need to have a think about my winter wardrobe. I could do with picking up some jumpers and cardigans from the charity shop. Because I'm short, 5 ft 2 most of my trousers are too long. I always combatted this with heels but they are not an option at the moment with my bad knees so I feel like I have nothing to wear.
Well best get on, have a good day ttftm thinking about you, hope it goes as well as possible today.
Bye for now x

Morning :hello:

beemuzed :hello:

I've wrapped the apples and stored them in a box. I've done this before and they all went mushy :D I inspected them all very closely for bruises so they should be OK.

Thanks for the comments about my blanket :) It's really easy, once you get the hang of crocheting two tr together (I swore A LOT while practising!). If you can do tr stitch, you can do a ripple.

I'm working on my jobs list. Trouble is, I won't find a job doing any of my favourite things :D I know I could sell the things I make, but I won't make a decent wage from them. I had a tour of gift shops in my town a few weeks ago, I'll go again after the holiday and pay closer attention to the handmade items. Make friends with the owners and see how they feel about sale or return :D

Neighbour is ringing the council today, the drains are blocked. Neighbours on right popped round last night, asking if we had problems with our drain because theirs was overflowing, they only noticed when he went to the shed and walked in it _pale_ We took off our cover, it was full to the top. Neighbour's on left is almost full. This happened a couple of years ago, turned out to be a blockage of rubbish from the drain in the road. They cleared out the road drain and all ours emptied quickly. I'm going for a super-quick shower in a mo, feel guilty about it because it'll only add to the problem :D Not keen on putting the washing machine on either.
