Where can I buy an iPhone 5 unlocked in new condition with 12 month warranty?

What happened to all the stock of iPhone 5 phones apple had in the stores? Where can I buy one? Not thrilled with iPhone "5s."

Don't know about p4u and amazon, but a 'sim-free' iPhone from CPW will get locked to the first network it ever connects to.
  • search for "brand new sealed iphone 5" on ebay and you should find plenty around the £400 mark for a 16gb version, obviously try to find an unlocked one. The 12 month apple warranty starts the moment you switch on the handset so as good as buying from Apple themselves but cheaper.

Apple don't want the Apple premium brand to be weakened by sales on their products so where they can Apple withdraw stock of a discontinued model once a new one is released and then use that stock for warranty refurbs.

Why would you want an iPhone 5 in preference to an iPhone 5S? Are you aware of various inherent defects with the iPhone 5? See this long thread for example about a defect that Apple have failed to fix for almost a year.

It is expected that when an iPhone goes into an area with no network coverage, the display will show "No Service". However, the iPhone 5, unlike other iPhone models, often continues to display "No Service" after coming back into strong network coverage. When this fault occurs, service can be restored manually by the user in one of three ways:
    • Turn the iPhone off and back on again
    • Turn on aeroplane mode for at least half a minute and turn it back off again
    • Try to make an outgoing call
I've had two of them and both had this fault.

i might be wrong, but i thought the only place you can get an unlocked iphone from is Apple themselves?

as all others will automatically lock to the first network you use them on

As I understand it yes, that the only way to get a phone that stays unlocked.

You can of course get them unlocked by the network but there may be a charge or minimum term to consider.

I got a refurb from the Apple store a while back, a warranty-replacement. I sold it on Ebay a while later as unlocked and the buyer filed a complaint. I had to refund £20 for the unlock fee.

If it was to replace a previous iPhone then I believe the lock status should be the same as the previous one.
  • I'd say have a look on eBay, there is a lot of deals on there with warranty.
