Removing a woodburner, return to open fire

I know its not popular, I know the efficiency issue, but.....
How difficult and how expensive would this be likely to be in a worse case scenario?

I can't see why it would be difficult at all. Is the chimney lined? If so, that might need to be removed but a standard fire basket and the work needed to install it shouldn't be too costly.

I once went with a fella who's fire place was just an open hearth below the chimney and he burned away at logs with no grate Logs just burned on top of a pile of ashes. No problem. No carbon monoxide poisoning nowt

And that was a third floor flat in London

That's what we have in our sitting room. It works fine as long as my mother doesn't visit and sweep up all the ash. :mad:

I do have a CO alarm though, and it's never gone off.
