Aldi - surely this cannot be right??

Options
In my local Aldi today were grapes for sale - yummy. 500g seedless green £1.39, 500g seedless red £1.39. To my delight they had mixed 500g boxes of green and red and a quick check of the price before I placed them in my trolley showed that the mixed grapes were £1.89 for 500g. I accept that the amount of time packing the mixed boxes might be greater than packing those of one colour but 50p per punnet - never!!!!! Needless to say I bought a box of one colour ( red in this case)and they are delicious!!!!

It took me a minute to work that out. Yes it does seem a big mark up.

Well yes I suppose its right, the more faffing about they have to do the higher the cost, labour has to be accounted for.

Personally I dont care what colour grapes are as long as they are nice, and these are.

    If
you really want both colours, i.e. for posh fruit salad buy one of each and mix your own. They freeze great.

In my Aldi this week, the snack packs of grapes were cheaper per kg than the bigger boxes as they were in the 'Big 6'. Naturally, I bough 2 snack packs.
  • in our local Sainbobs their basic green grapes are £1.00 per 500 gm punnet and the non-basic ones were £2.00 per 500 gms punnet, the non-basic ones are being pushed at the front of the store as a 'special offer' at double the price of the basic ones The only differance I could see were that the basic ones were slightly smaller but just as sweet at half the price .Give you three wild guesses which punnet I chose :):):) yup the £1.00 ones and they were delicious :):)

Careful with Aldi. They do things by codes not prices. This means that if for example an item's price has changed that day but one of the old ones at lower price is still there you'll get charged the higher price.

I've noticed things like this in aldi, but on the whole the value and prices are second to none for me.Having said that I have noticed a massive influx of people since the tv ads, and reckon the prices might increase in the future:D
