  • hi

thanks for all your replies, I will contact my insurance tomorrow (which I hadn't even thought of) and get in touch with the seller tomorrow letting them know how much it will cost me if he wants his plate back.

In the original post, the old plates are in the car, so £20 saved.

That is true if the dvla give the op the original reg back, sometimes its a new reg, very rarely happens but not unheard of.

I have a private plate and has been on 15+ cars i.ve owned.

Always kept the original plates and always went back to the original plates when I removed my number.

Unless you put the original plate on retention and sell it on, Its standard to revert to the old plate.

You can do all this at the local DLVA office if you have one.

Incorrect, this facility was withdrawn from local offices some time ago.

The next plan is to close all the offices. Have you read the information from the link I posted?

When you change plates your old one goes back into the dvla pot, it could be reissued to another vehicle but very rarely is.

Two weeks in theory, at present they are running 6 weeks behind. Even the motor traders are complaining

To the OP, a good point was made earlier in the thread about your insurance company. Many companies now charge an admin fee to change details. £25 and upwards is what you may expect.

I sent mine off on the 30th August 2nd class, got the replacement tax disc and V948 back 13/9 just gotta wait for the retention certficate now, but it's probably 7 weeks until my next car is deleivered.
