  • I live in Wales and the transition really hasn't been traumatic. You get used to carrying a foldaway bag in your handbag or car and making sure that you have enough bags with you when you go shopping.

It was slightly annoying when my children went off to university - they nicked all my bags! They pride themselves on taking bags with them to shop even though they are both in England. It was strange when I went shopping with them and the assistant didn't ask if I wanted a single-use bag and I gave it her back.

You will get used to it really quickly. I heard a radio interview about it a couple of days ago and the interviewer was trying to provoke outrage - really - it is not that big a deal!

To be honest Im not bothered by it at all, Ive got quite used to using my own bags. Its just a discussion we were having at work that got me thinking. There were 8 people round the table, 5 said they would press that they had only used 1 bag to save being charged for more. 2 also said that at the moment when it asks you how many of your own bags you have used (to gain nectar points for each one) they always press 3 or 4

One also said that if she follows someone at the till who dosnt bother to pick up their receipt, she takes it and if they have not used a nectar card, goes to the desk and has their points added to her card.

Security cameras are only as good as the people operating them. I work where there are cameras on everything 24/7 but the guys who are supposed to be watching them are often seen chatting or playing on mobiles. One of them, who has now left the company told me that it was so boring sitting watching the cameras that they actually pay very little attention to what is going on and on occasions read.
  • I have to be honest I can't remember when I last bought a bag at a self scan till so I can't remember what the process is but I seem to remember the assistant pressing the amount onto the till herself or watched me do it to ensure that the correct number is recorded

As for claiming someone elses nectar points - can't see that is in the same league - just screws up the marketing data that the supermarkets have on you and you get offers on stuff you wouldn't necessarily buy

If you are using a self check out you wouldn't have that much shopping or the need for more than a couple of bags. For the sake of 10p or so I think most people would just be honest and pay up.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Id take my own bags, or buy a shopping trolley. At tesco self serve if they ask you how many bags you have, if you press more than 1, an attendant has to verify that.

Lots of shops have been charging for carrier bags for years, no big deal, I probably still use too many but I try as much as I can to take one of the big aldi or lidl bags and just use that, even if Im shopping in Tesco, which is rare, the bags are so thin anyway, they are hardly worth using.

I do recycle bags where I can as well.

Our M&S charges 5p per bag and at the self-check-out they rely on your honesty to say how many bags you have used.
  • If companies want to get round this they can set it automatically to discount whatever the product is by the value of the bags customers will be forced to pay.

I've been carrying around a couple of recycled bags for a while now and it works well for groceries. Where I do have a problem though is with the concept that if I buy myself a nice white shirt from M&S for example I'll be expected to put it in one of my own bags which may not be 100% clean as I've been using it for other things.

I suspect once the penalties come in I will only shop online, other than for groceries.

I'm talking about ordering clothing online and things like household goods. Don't think I've ever had clothing delivered in a plastic tray?
