OS Daily Sunday 15th September 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

• Morning all!

Am full o' the cold at the moment and feeling rather sorry for myself. The Boys didn't help by waking me up at 5am this morning! I think we'll all be going for a nap later :)

A farming friend has offered me veggies from her garden harvest so I'll be going over to pick them up in the next few days and then get them packed up into the freezer. The prepper in me likes to know we're well stocked.

The wind is picking up and it's wet and dark outside - this must be autumn.

OS-wise today is a day of rest and will involve tending my seedlings, knitting and reading. And getting some Sweet Potato Soup I made yesterday settled into the freezer :)

Have a good day everyone ...

Morning :hello:

The slow cooker is dusted off and about to be turned on :D We bought some rump steak in Morrison's, it was half price. Just over a lb of steak for £3.96. I'll chop it up and throw it in with loads of homegrown veg, mr tru will make the dumplings later :D I'm tempted to leave the meat out and have veg stew but mr tru won't like that, lol.

We dug up some potatoes yesterday, one bin had one potato, one had three and one had loads. Not sure what happened there :D The first bin (a couple of weeks ago) had lots. There's one bin left, wonder how many are in that one?

My blanket is now 5' long, I've passed the halfway mark :T :D I've been making some little white stars for Christmas. In my head, they're classy little things that will look lovely hanging from twigs from my willow tree. But I have a feeling they may end up looking like something I made for my mum when I was three and in playschool :rotfl:

Hello all, awake and ready to plough on with the house. I did say to the girls I would take them Lego discovery with merlin passes if thru but that looks like a no go!

Had a good shop at mr t yesterday as I had a 5 & 7 off a 50 shop which I was allowed to use. A lot of my staple stuff was on offer so let girls get an item from clothing sale and the new baby bel that they want to try as they were on offer. Wouldn't normally but needed to hit the fifty!

Girls got highly commended on their dance exams. I don't mind them going as it means I don't slob around on a Saturday and get moving!

You guys have made my mind up to put something in the slow cooker for tea... Off to have a look now!

Morning all

pp how are you feeling this morning , hope dd is settling into uni xx

njl hope you soon feel better

tru steak sounds like a bargain :j , I didn't grow any potatoes this year, I must have left a spud in the ground last year though because one sprouted and I've had loads of tatties from it :T:T:D

Hoping for a quiet day , I have got a load of ironing to do , other than that the house is reasonably clean . Dd1 made a cake last night and hasn't washed up after , so I've come down to a messy kitchen . Well it can stay messy until she cleans it up , I'm certainly not doing it

Found out that one of the guinea pigs has a tumour , her tummy is huge bless her. The vet says there's nothing they can do , just to watch her carefully and when she deteriorates to bring her back. At the moment she seems happy , she's eating and lively , hopefully, she will stay that way for a while yet.

Fajita wraps for lunch , dd2 is working later So will have hers when she gets in

Have a good day everyone x

Not been on lately as laptop cable wont power the machine, only bought the cable a couple of months ago (all assuming it is the cable, laptop is fairly old so may be broken!). Using DDs while she's still in bed.

Hugs to those in need, Sistercas - hope the little piggy is comfortable.

Anniversary of losing DH today - DD and I always go out for a meal so we will be off out for lunch, was at friends last night for dinner so no cooking this weekend for me.

I have been asked to return to my evening job, apparently things will change! Not sure so having a little holiday to think about it!

Hope you all have a good Sunday, take care. XX
• Hi all,
Cold and rainy in Newcastle this morning :-)
I went to Asda about 9pm last night (rather than go this morning!) and it was fairly cool outside and smelled like someone had been having a bonfire... It was lovely!! My favourite time of year!
BF's mate is coming round late morning for them to practice a song they have written (they are in a band together) and then after that we are going into town.
Need to take a couple of HM chilli burgers out of the freezer for my tea tonight. Need to put the WM, DW and TD on too. Busy day!
Hope you all have a good day!

tibawo Well done to your DDs

Hugs to all those with children off to university, they will be back sooner than you know it with all the washing you could hope for!

Off to church this morning, then a pottering day cleaning, tidying and cooking.

• Good morning all,
Not been on for a while. Sometimes life just gets in the way.
Sunny here at the moment but a chill in the air. Everywhere is just so wet underfoot. I think we are due high winds later on.
Did the housework last night as hubby is in bed today as he has work tonight. Washing is on the airer. There is another load in the wm at the moment that will also go on the airer. I don't really think it will dry outside.
Chicken cooked in the slow cooker for tea tonight with potatoes and vegetables.
tru, your steak was a bargain, lovely. We have done quite well with our potatoes this year. Some are fairly small but will still get used. We have ten sacks in the garage so that should last us a few months. We did grow alot of rows on our allotment.
glitterkitty, my favourite time of the year too. Somebody had lit a coalfire last night.
Will take the dog out for a long walk today. I could do with the exercise!
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Hi all,

Not been posting much lately, but still reading.

OH and I had a 'day off' yesterday, kids were away, so apart from the food shopping, we just chilled...

Downside to that is a busy day today, WM and DW on, beef stew in SC, and will start flapjacks and some HM bread and rolls in a bit.

Weather doesn,t look too bad at the mo, so will get at least 2 loads out this morning - the heavens are due to open by lunchtime, so may have to bung it in the TD to finish off - then tackle the ironing mountain ready for work/school.

Work is still Carp, but its the same for us all, not a good atmosphere, management have to select peeps for redundancy, no news yet...

I am planning xmas and have cut right back, however I am thinking about getting OH a kindle fire, he keeps pinching my ipad to look at 'work stuff' and play angry birds ;) - am I right in thinking you can get on the tinternet and download apps on this type of kindle? They,ve got £30 off them at the mo.

Have a fab day all xx

Morning all,

Cool here this morning but the sun is out, I am loving these autumn days. DD and I are off to work today, and then need to go and see my dad after, so dd prepared a chicken casserole yesterday which OH can just shove in the oven later on.

We did well in the room of doom yesterday OH took the doors off stripped back and undercoated one side, he will do the other side today, and I got another coat on the ceiling and walls, we are slowly getting there !

Need to do an online shop at some point will try tonight, trouble is I am shattered when I get in from work !

I need to get a new slow cooker, mine conked out, I need one of those double ones though or 2 seperate ones so I can do a veggie meal at the same time.

Camelot, hugs to you today love xx

Sistercas, I hope Piggy is ok

Have good days all xx
