Sky TV - New Customer or change payment details?

Hi Guys, apologies is this has been posted elsewhere. Basically I am in the process of taking over all the household payments from a family member. Currently we get our Broadband and TV (But not our phone) through Sky and pay in the region of £69.50 a month for the full Sky package (Movies and Sports included) but not HD.
My question is this, is it better for me to cancel the contract in name of the family member (Who has been with Sky on this contract for over 10 years) or phone up and ask if there are any offers for existing customers and change the payment details on the account? I appreciate every case is unique and there is no surefire right answer here but any advice is greatly appreciated.

Personally, I'd be tempted to ring up and tell Sky you are cancelling because the family member who pays the bill has left. Explain that you cannot afford the current bill yourself (whether you can or not) and see what deals to keep you they offer. To get the best deals, though, it might be necessary to actually cancel.chrisgrnwd wrote: »is it better for me to cancel the contract in name of the family member (Who has been with Sky on this contract for over 10 years) or phone up and ask if there are any offers for existing customers and change the payment details on the account?

I left home in March and cancelled sky as it was in my name. My dad called up the day after the cease date and they told him because I was moving out, he would be classed as a new customer and was entitled to so many months at half price etc!0
