Hello
We are driving to london from the midlands on Friday for the day (british museum pompeii tickets).
Want to park somewhere and take tube. I can see some tube stations have large car parks (finchley for example). What are my chances of parking (arrive approx 0900).
Anyone any suggestions?

Much better than Finchley, but would have been much easier last month.
Last part of the M1 , not easy but if you attempt the A1/A41
Drive from the bottom of the A1 ( apex corner ) to Finchley a little before 9am would be ghastly, often solid .
What about parking further out ?? Harpenden ? taking the train ?Thinking driving already for a couple of hours plus , then London Traffic , going to be a tough journey.0 -
Harpenden. Is that in a zone or further out? Is parking good there?0

Much further out , south of Luton .
To be honest, its never going to be easy to promise parking at the time you want .Also onward journey is going to be expensive , can you delay until 9.30 am , can suggest a side street with parking , near St Albans train station , but not before 9.300 -
You could look at Watford junction train station as it is not far from the M1 and has a large car park and the train from there into Euston takes 20 minutes with The British Museum about 15 minutes walk from there. Will work out cheaper train fare wise than parking at stations not on the London transport overground route.

You could also consider Edgware tube station as not far from M1 and parking at the Chimes shopping centre car park (if the tube station car park is full) as it is only a couple of minutes walk from there to the tube station. You get the tube direct to Tottenham Court Road and it is about 5 mins walk from there to the Museum. The journey time would be about 30 minutes on the tube. Fares would be cheaper as it would be £3 each way for an off peak single journey with Oyster (travel after 9.30am) or £8.50 for an off peak daily 1-6 travelcard. Watford jct to Euston the fare would be £4.70 each way with Oyster.

Wallbash. 9.30 is ok as would probably get train after then to avoid peak time
Susancs. Is the chimes shopping centre the 'official' overflow? Are there any issues with parking there if not using shopping centre
Thanks all for your ideas so far0 -

The shopping centre car park is not the offical oveflow car park (or not noted as such on the info board when I parked there when attending a meeting in the area last Friday), but there seems to be no restriction on parking there as it is an entry ticket and exit barrier system with man in a box.
I had a look for you and recently Gil57 has put on some information on free parking in roads near Edgware Tube station on Tripadvisor if you don't mind a 10 minute walk (post 8 on the thread). You could send a message to Gil57 as she seems to live in that area.

I have not travelled to St Albans from London using the train, but the train fares seem to expensive from there into London for your date on the London Midland train website.0 -
We drive from the north and park in Cockfosters. There is a nice residential area just around the corner from the tube. Then we buy a day ticket zones 1 to 6 I think and head on into the city from there. We do that every time and never had any problems. Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!
