Afternoon all,

I have an appointment at North Tyneside hospital next month.

The letter received this week advises me that car parkis run by PE.

My question is whether or not I actually have to pay?

I've read a lot on here in terms of advice to not pay charge notices, go to popla etc but wondered where I might stand if I made no attempt to pay anything?

  • Of course you should pay the parking fee. It's people like you who give the scammers excuses to infest car parks.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

It's a reasonable question based on charge notices from these companies being unenforceable.

At no point did I say I do not pay lawful parking fees.

Its advised to pay fair parking charges no matter if they are run by the council or privately. You should be advised that PE are currently running into the thousands of county court claims to people who think that ignore always works, it doesn't.

But despite the thousands of claims, there is almost 700k tickets issued annually by them, some statistics say 30%-40% of people ignore them, so over 250k ignored tickets, to maybe by the end of year figure of about 5k of claims.

So up to you, but just pay and try not to be late back to your car
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

If you are going to quote please do it properly.

I asked... where I might stand if I made no attempt to pay anything?

The key being 'if' and as explained being based on whether the initial parking fee was fair.

How much are you expecting to pay?
Is it really worth all the hassle and worry if you don' pay

Unless you are disabled, and you object to paying why not park in the nearby estate it is only 5 minutes away

Don't know the cost off the top of my head but I think it's in the leaflet they sent.

The question was aimed to find out if there would be worry/ hassle if I didn't pay.

I don't object to paying a fair car parking charge.

I am not disabled but can't walk as far as you are suggesting due to the nature of the problem for which I've been referred to the hospital.
  • You'll find it hard to get out of the automated barrier car parks if you don't pay is all I'm going to say.
  • As far as I am aware it's number plate recognition, not barriers.

If you don't pay or leave the car park after the time stated on the signs, PE will almost certainly pursue you. Then you're in for a whole heap of fun!

Don't risk it, you don't need unnecessary carp in your life, especially if you are unwell, concentrate your efforts on getting better.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
