Betterlife at Lloyds Pharmacy - Warning

I am blazing with this company. Briefly, I ordered a mobility scooter from them, online, on 6th September for £799. I discovered over the weekend that I could get one from another company for £695 so I 'phoned Betterlife to cancel the order. They offered to let me have the scooter for the same price so I agreed. They told me the scooter would take three or four days.

I 'phoned yesterday to find out when it would arrive only to be told they couldn't tell me. The scooter hadn't been ordered from the maker. I then discovered that they had taken the full amount of the scooter -£799 - from my credit card immediately. I was shocked and annoyed so cancelled the order and said I wanted a refund. I was told they would refund me as soon as possible.

There seems to be little that I can do but wait.

  • I think the OP is trying to make the point that they told him 4 days and now they are not telling them how long it will take and that it has been ordered but there is nothing stating how long the other company for £695 will take to deliver...? so could be waiting even longer on top of now having to wait for a refund..:undecided
  • The point I am making is that Betterlife have taken my money long before they have even ordered the scooter.

I have cancelled my order with them because I have no idea when they will deliver the item. In the meantime I will have to pay an extra £711 on my credit card because Betterlife have not yet refunded my money.

Most companies don't debit your credit card until the item is being delivered.

This is not true, yes some larger retailers will do this, but this all depends on what payment provider the retailers use. If they use direct payment processors (Paypal/Worldpay/sagepay etc.) then the payment will be taken at the order process as the retailer does not have access to your card details, Some large retailers will take you card details and then process payments manually at time of dispatch.
  • I don't have a Paypal account, and I never will. Certainly, Amazon have never debited my CC before despatch and they hold my CC details so that I never have to enter it. Indeed, I don't know of any companies that I use who have taken payment before sending the goods, so I have no idea how you can make such a statement. Perhaps it's because you pay with Paypal.

In any case, this company has had the benefit of my £799 languishing in its account for over one week now, and who knows for how much longer.

because being a retailer for over 11 year online and offline i have researched many payment processors. with PCI compliance nowadays and its costs it will be only larger companies that will take and store CC/DC details as smaller companies cant afford the PCI Compliance costs so they use processors that handle the payments which will take the funds at the checkout stage.
