Sky through their "Integrated Reception System" - see

clearly have a way of getting multiple feeds to Sky+ boxes off one dish (for, say, blocks of flats). So there must be electronics that do this. Anyone know where/how the normal punter can purchase same??
Appreciate Messrs Sky might not want us to..

Although you can certainly buy the required parts - standard 60 or 80 cm dish (NOT a Sky minidish), quattro lnb and multiswitch(es) it is often not a simple DIY installation depending on the number of flats and the length of cabling to each. Each port on the lnb needs connecting to the correct port on the multiswitch, outputs will often need to have their output level adjusted and sometimes inline amplifiers fitted depending on length of cabling. Multiswitches come with a maximum of 32 outputs so if more than that are required then multiple multiswitches need to be cascaded. Note also that most multiswitches can also distribute a terrestrial Freeview signal down the same cabling with an input from an appropriate aerial.
So basically for a small (both size of block and number of flats) block of flats then yes it can be DIY but for larger installations then an SMATV experienced installer is required with professional quality meters.0 -
Sky would be happy to supply subscriptions to such a set-up but would not be liable for any warranty on problems outside of a faulty box. Also Sky installers would NOT perform any adjustments or fault finding on such a system and may well refuse to fit a box if the signal levels and quality are not OK at any outlet - too much signal is as bad as too little.theartfullodger wrote: »Thank you for your kind comments.
And Sky are OK in practice with a home-grown/not Sky installed dish/amp/cabling solution - say block of 12 flats & individual Sky+ subscriptions??
Best regards
Note also that Sky do not fit such systems themselves but pass the installation on to firms that specialise in SMATV systems who have the required experience and tools required.0
