When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. .
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending :money:

I was invited out for a cuppa in town this morning and instead have invited my friend to my house for endless free tea and freshly baked cheese scones! Saved us a tenner easily and we'll have more to eat and drink without having to fight for a table either!

Morning all
It's the weekend. :j
Today I AM gonna stop procrastinating and do some stuff I've been avoiding, though to be fair yesterday I was too exhausted to do much.
Lovely day here today.
Everyone is welcome to post on here. Just click on 'Post Reply' at the bottom and get typing!
The List:
:staradmin Cooked breakfast this morning from the freezer rather than the local bistro. I miss going to the Bistro but I don't miss shelling out £12 for two breakfasts! Done
:staradmin Check progress of selling broken Freeview box on eBay. 6 watchers. Yay!
:staradmin Dispose of tree I felled the other day. Done
:staradmin Washing back out to dry on the line. Done
:staradmin Free entertainment: long walk to next village in the sunshine with a flask of coffee and a sandwich. Then visit some of the places open in today's free Doors Open Day which is being held right across Scotland this weekend. This site is listing free entry to everything from Cold War Military bunkers to Fire Stations. (Link)
Done
:staradmin Pick brambles/blackberries while we were out walking. Done, washed and froze flat.
:staradmin Open separate Facebook account and email account to try my hand at comping. Done. Ten comps entered.
:staradmin Make quiche using half a breast of chicken, chorizo and leftover lemon yoghurt. Success, OH liked it.
:staradmin Wash and reused tin foil once before recycling. Done.
:staradmin Write to Sky TV to get a dispute resolved.

Hi Everyone
Its ages since I have been on the thread but have come back as have seriously fallen off the wagon lately! Glad to see so many of the same people on here.
I gave in last night and bought one of the heated laundry airers for drying clothes after debating about it for ages. They arent cheap but just cant face messing around trying to get wet clothes dry all winter. Got some reduced very good quality dishcloths at the same time lol so I am all set up!!!
Here is my list:-
Have a low spend day - just the market for some fruit and veg and milk. Dont need potatoes as I still have alot left from my home grown. Park in the free parking area too.
Make in roads into my messy kitchen
Check banking and move some money
Go out for a walk this afternoon
Start sorting out my wardrobe and drawers, need to get rid of some stuff to the RSPCA charity shop
Have an early night tonight havent slept well all week so need a good lie in!
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning all,
Busy morning this morning as got cattery, packing & what seems like 101 other jobs.
Small positive MSE things on today's list:
*Laundry successfully dried overnight on new heated airer. Didn't switch it on until midnight so it only ran for 1 hour on full price tariff before Economy 7 kicked in. Laundry beautifully dry.
*Monitored electricity meters 1st thing to see exact time the cheap tariff ends. Confirmed that despite an electricity company assuring my Dad that ALL Economy 7 tariffs run from 12 midnight to 7a.m, ours definitely runs from 1a.m to 8a.m, which is more useful in terms of getting stuff done in the mornings.
*Ironing - will be switching off for last couple of items & leaving anything that really doesn't need it.
*Bake bread, hobnobs & lemon drizzle cake to take on camping trip to help us avoid tempting cake shop offerings.
*Pack up a picnic for the journey.
*Make a rough meal plan for when we are there, so we only eat out one night instead of most nights. Pack food.
*Water greenhouse veggies & pick anything that looks like it will be either a marrow or mush by the time we return.
*Update budgets.....bit of a muddle as borrowed from various budgets to pay cash for stuff in town yesterday, so need to make appropriate pay-backs before I lose the plot.
*Pack some small Christmas present knitting projects to knit in tent. (Socks probably, as can pretty much knit those in the dark!)
*Make a ribbon strap for our tent 'bedroom' light, so that it can be switched off from the bed.....we were going to buy an additional light, but this won't be necessary with a bit of minor sewing & something from my scrap fabric box.
Think that's it.....car already filled up with much cheaper petrol from next town instead of the ridiculous prices people seem quite happy to pay in this town!
Have a good weekend, everyone.......will try to do an FB post now & again if we have any signal.

Morning all!
Very proud of what I have achieved already this morning despite feeling pretty weary!
*prepared a slow cooked thai beef curry, this will be warmed through for tonights tea.
*made dough for loaf of bread.
*made dough for DDs bread rolls she has in her packed lunch.
*washed DSs nappies and hung on drying rack
To do
*I'm working a few hours this evening on overtime so that's some extra money for the paying off pot!
*doing craft activities with the children
*making some sort of flat bread to go with the curry.
So all in all and postive start! Not sure what's for lunch though! Tinned spaghetti bolonaise went down well with the kids last week!Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Afternoon all,
Thanks for starting us off Ally.
Foxgloves - Have a lovely trip, hope the weather is nice for you & Mr Foxgloves.
I slept all morning & still feel shattered, there is something not right here! In two minds as to whether to get on with things or just relax a bit...
Today's plan:-- Food from stores

- Log calories & exercise on free apps
- Checked birthday bingo
- Check online banking
- Check for new mystery shopping opportunities
- Enter some comps
- Do some surveys
- Declutter & flylady
- Check emails for reply regarding refund
- DH has done 4.75 hours of overtime today
- Heating off, fleecey dressing gowns on instead
- Go to second job tonight, driving not drinking
- Debate applying for temporary promotion...
- Washing on eco setting using less than the recommended dose of washing liquid
- Hang up to dry
- Sort out car tax before I forget!

* Heating off as not needed
* Cashmere on !!
* Just read gas meter as I am keeping frequent checks, only 20 units used since 20/8/13, this low usage seems such a big difference to the £96 worth a month British Gas wanted me to pay from then onwards so I am doing a quarterly direct debit as an experiment for this quarter as I am up to date and have paid them for all I used up to the 20 August. I know the darker colder days lie ahead but I want to see what happens with me in control for once (instead of putting it on automatic settings and hoping the direct debit is sufficient as I did in the past)
* Checked the bay sales, none yet so can only improve (hope so!!)
* Another survey done, thanks YouGov
* Babysitting tonight
* Working tomorrow
* Food from stores, cooked breakfast/brunch
* Checked banking, all as expected
* Washing done last night and has dried overnight in spare room
* Got winter Witney blanket out of storage chest
* Cooperative sent voting slips, done, 50 points and a £1 off £10 shop for next visit. Might get the Xmas sweet tubs early to use that, rather than spending £10 randomly...
Have a great weekend everyone. xx“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -

Is this all year round or something to do with British Summertime? I had Economy 7 years ago and mine didn't change when the clocks did, so it was an hour different coming on and off in the summer, as I recall.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
