Hi guys

Last month I took a contract iphone out for my friend, who I thought was a good friend. We ain't friends now!

So I'm stuck with a 2 year contract that I have to pay.

Nothing I can do is there?

But what can I do so he can't use the phone?

Thanks

Nothing, but at least you can avoid paying extra if your friend goes over the allowances.
You are the account holder. Call the network and make sure that the registered address is yours, not your friend's. Then report the sim stolen and ask for a replacement one sent to your address.
At some providers you can save about 1/6 by cancelling the contract and paying the Early Termination Fee.

You can also report the phone lost/stolen and ask to have it blocked. Your friend will be unable to use it on any UK network, but you will not benefit financially from this. So, instead of doing this it's worth trying first to persuade your friend just to return the phone.

Report it stolen and order a replacement sim
It's not just about the money
  • Why don't I get insurance on the phone...report it lost....then they can send me a new one, and I can just use it as an iPod?

Against the law but come on guys

Why would I need a sim?

Generally you can use it with any unlocked phone or a phone locked to the same network. If you really don't need it just report the original sim stolen and make it clear that you don't need the new one as some providers do this automatically and charge for sending a replacement.

Why "as an iPod"? A new one will be a fully functional phone.
However discussing insurance fraud on a public forum is not a clever thing to do.
  • As I already have an iPhone.

I would use his as an iPod

Can't you use your iPhone as an iPad as well and just sell the unneded phone to pay for the contract that you don't need?

Are you seriously advertising that the fact that you intend to commit fraud.

No wonder insurance companies are so particular about picking out genuine claims from the fraudulent ones.
