As far as PPI complaints go, not having a good day today lol

I am in the same boat, although I was told to cash the cheque and any extra amount would be sent via an additional cheque.

Who told you that your cheque has been cancelled?

I phoned up last week asking Lloyds PPI Dept what they suggested I do regarding the queried amount. They suggested that if I had the evidence to prove that I had paid more, that I sent it in. I therefore sent them a letter with copies of all the statements.

I then received a cheque on Friday from Lloyds for the original amount (post would have crossed over). I called Lloyds and asked if I should cash the cheque or wait to hear from them. The guy suggested that cashing it would be fine.

I was a little nervous about doing this as I didn't want it to appear that I was accepting their offer. I therefore called them back again this afternoon to double check. The lady said a letter has been posted to me today saying that they received my documents and everything has been sent back to be recalculated but due to the high demand at this time they couldn't confirm how long this might take. Great! - She also said that the cheque has been cancelled.

Does anyone know how long this might take now? It doesn't seem fair as I've already done the whole 8 weeks thing and my complaint has been upheld and I've given them all the figures and proof! grrr

The recalculation should take no longer than 28 days.

Lloyds PPI Dept told me today that it had been cancelled when I called them. I received the cheque on Friday and called to say should I avoid cashing the cheque or would the difference be sent to me... The guy said it would be ok to cash it but didn't really seem interested in what I was saying and I was worried that he didn't advise me correctly so I called them again today to re-check this and the lady said that she could see that a letter had been sent to me today saying that they have received my statements and letter and that it had been passed to the relevant dept for re calculation but couldn't give a time frame due to very high levels at the moment. She then said the letter also said that as a cheque had been sent out and that I hadn't yet cancelled it, that they had put a stop on it. I asked why the man advised me differently on Friday and she said she didn't know and that she would pass it onto her manager.

Did they tell you it shouldn't take longer than 28 days?

Hope not... to be fair, up until now, Lloyds have been really good to deal with and stuck to all timescales and advised me along the way. Hope it continues this way.

It took 6 days between receiving my letter stating that my complaint had been upheld and actually receiving the cheque..

The 28 days is from the date of your FRL to being paid.
As it has now gone for a recalc/review it is likely to take longer than that. All the time however you will be getting 8% interest.

I would have cashed that cheque and waited for the additional refund, should one be coming, but too late now.

There are two reasons why I didn't cash the cheque first:

    1. When I wrote to them asking them to recalculate/give me a breakdown.. I didn't have the cheque at that point and was aware that it could take 28 days anyway.
    2. When I received the cheque, I didn't cash it first because I didn't want them to think that I was accepting that amount and therefore they wouldn't look into it again. That is why I called them, for advice.
  • I fully understand that and I am not criticising you for not cashing it.

Lloyds will re look at your claim if you have any further evidence, and accepting the initial refund does not in any way stop that.

FWIW you can give them BACS details to get paid quicker when they make their decision.

Too late now, of course, but the poster can expect to wait a whole lot longer than 28 days for a final resolution.
I agree with you that the cheque would have been better cashed.

I wish I had asked for advice on here before sending the letter off now (although I didn't have the cheque then) - it doesn't seem fair that the cheque was stopped now, having read these comments. They could have let me keep it and issued any other about due? I know it won't make much difference but I might call them again tmrw. I supplied my bank details in my letter asking them to pay any money due directly to my account rather than sending cheque.
Thanks for your replies. Appreciate it :-)
