Hi there, hope you don't mind me joining in but we saw an allotment today and are having it :j! We'll be sorting it out over the weekend; the lady who owned it has given it up due to ill health and she just couldn't cope so it is quite weedy but nothing that we can't cope with. Not sure what we'll plant yet; going to see what others are doing. The people on the allotment seem really nice and friendly as it's only been going a year and everyone has been learning together.

This is going to be a family affair; I'm not doing everything by any means - we're going to get our 11 and 7 year olds to help too. They've been spending too much time on the iPad etc so I think this project will put pay to that!

If you like onions you can plant overwintering onions soon, also winter cabbage and overwintering broad beans aquadulce variety. You can get the ground ready for planting now and plant at the end of the month, the cabbages should be in the garden centres now.

Mum of 2 by any chance does your plot come with a greenhouse and patio?

My site manager today was telling me about a lady with two kids who'd just taken on a plot... :)

No queen of cheap, it's not me as ours doesn't have a greenhouse and patio.

I think we're heading over later today to make a start on clearing ours; am hoping this will be good for my weight loss as I put on well over a stone on some meds  and want to shift it!

It was a long shot, but seeing your post and what my site rep was telling me...

You'll have lots and lots of fun! It's hard work but when you start bringing stuff home, and stuff that other people give you, it's so worth it :D

If you pop along to to "grow your own dinner" thread on here, you'll find loads of useful tips and advice

I've not lost an ounce since I started three months ago, but it was very good for my tan :D
