Microsoft Word is not the same thing as Microsoft Windows. The former is a word processor, the latter is an operating system. There is no such thing as Windows 2007. There is Word/Office 2007 however.

The key on the bottom of the notebook will be for Windows, my Word. There are free alternatives to Word though, such as Open Office.

Again my apologies if I'm not explaining myself properly - I am terrible with technology and it's not helped being on the other side of the world. The system on the netbook is microsoft office word and powerpoint 2007. I shall try in the morning to in input the code that's on the bottom of the netbook - it's very worn but I think I can possibly make it out with some help. I really do appreciate the help you are giving me.

Which version of Windows is it? Computers built with Windows 8 often don't come with stickers showing the product key any more.

I don't think any Windows 8 machines have CoA's because they no longer need them, the product key is stored within the PC's hardware and is automatically used when Windows 8 is installed with a standard disc. Previously machines would tend to only activate automatically with the manufacturer's OEM install disc or would need the product key for a standard disc which was frequently a pain in the neck as the information on the CoA's was frequently ineligible as it had been gradually rubbed off.

You don't have a Product Key for Office 2007 because you have not paid for a licence. The version on the Netbook is just a Trial version. Works for 60 day or 25 uses...whichever comes first.

that's fine, at least I know that - so my next question is going to be is it possible for me to pay for a licence/download a useable version of office or word onto this netbook - I am following this - albeit slowly - but I am understanding what you are all saying.

You'll probably be recommended to use a free office program, such as LibreOffice or Open Office

Thank you for those recommendations - can I also thank you all tonight (I am 7 hours ahead) who have helped me - being useless with technology isn't great when you're in China but slowly I am trying to understand how things work and how to do things - I really appreciate you taking the time to post and help me in language that I understood.
