25 character product key for windows from where?

I bought a netbook a few months ago and this problem has just come up in the last week or so - with the added issue that I'm actually working in China for a year!

When I log into windows on the netbook it's obviously only a limited version of windows and it asks for a 25 character product key in order for windows to be installed properly. I've googled this and there seems to be sites that if you watch a programme then you appear to get this product code - they don't work in China (or at least not for me in this netbook).

Is there any way around this or should I just give up and use windows on another pc (at the school where I teach for example). Can anyone give me any advice or help? Thanks in advance.

It should be on a sticker attached to the base. If not on the base remove the battery and check in the battery compartment.

There are plenty of illegal sites that share windows keys or give you hacks to try and bypass it but obviously no one here is going to promote illegal options.

The key for your netbook is on a sticker on the base of it.

If you've lost this or it isnt supposed to have a genuine copy of windows on it why not use Linux? you could even stick it on a memory stick and boot it off that

I didn't think in the slightest to look on the netbook - there's nothing on the battery but there is a stuck on the bottom with a product key number on it - it's fairly well worn however but the light in my apartment isn't brilliant, so I'll try and read it tomorrow. Thanks for advising me of that. If I cannot read the product key properly is there a way of contact microsoft to get the key or something?

The system is windows - when I checked it before I left for China I saw that the netbook had windows and powerpoint on it but didn't investigate properly.

InsideInsurance I wasn't aware that those sites were illegal, trust me being in China I am wary enough about what I google and install, a VPN is as far as I'm willing to go!

Which version of Windows is it? Computers built with Windows 8 often don't come with stickers showing the product key any more.

It's Windows 2007 - there is definately a sticker but it's quite worn, so hopefully in natural light I should be able to see the code properly. It's a great little netbook, I can't face the thought of trying to buy a new laptop in China and and try and set it up!

The OP is clearly referring to Office 2007. Windows and Powerpoint? That doesn't make sense at all.

Why would a Netbook that you bought a few months ago have a worn out COA?

How about some exact details about the machine?

The brand name and the full model number. Which Operating System is installed and which operating system is indicated on the sticker underneath the Netbook.

Download and run Produkey from here

    More detailed info here
my apologies it's late here, I've downloaded produkey and it comes up with some 25 digit number but it's not acecepted in word - I am utterly stupid when it comes to technology, so I'm not sure what I should be doing with this download.

Microsoft Word is not the same thing as Microsoft Windows. The former is a word processor, the latter is an operating system. There is no such thing as Windows 2007. There is Word/Office 2007 however.

The key on the bottom of the notebook will be for Windows, not Word. There are free alternatives to Word though, such as Open Office.

You don't have a Product Key for Office 2007 because you have not paid for a licence. The version on the Netbook is just a Trial version. Works for 60 day or 25 uses...whichever comes first.
