I have also had cold calls from 01634 918020 claiming to be from the 'energy review commission'. When i asked for a website to verify the company was legit they hung up on two occasions.

First and foremost this will be a call from a small company and they will have trained their young and impressionable call center staff to use fake names and to say they are calling from something that sounds like a government body. When you get a quote they will use the real company name.

If they call you offering free panels they will often be referring to a scheme where you pay for second rate european panels in full (often £20k) with the promise of a full return from the feed in tariff or through an insurance plan. The insurance plan is often fake (check the insurance websites IP) and the feed in tariff returns are always exaggerated. These are usually run by phoenix companies that go bankrupt before any returns are made.

Never buy anything from a company that uses cold calling. You will always be paying for your product and the minimum wages of the call center staff and the hefty bonuses of the salesmen.

I received a call from the above today. Specifically told they don't sell anything merely want to know if I qualified for free (government sponsored) solar panels. The number that displayed was a local code on the east coast if Scotland; I asked the caller where he was - he stated Glasgow. The telephony system must recognise the destination and then display a false number to dupe the receiver into answering.
This does not sound legal!
