Energy Saving Review Team

Had a cold call from this company? who are they? after I asked who they were and interupted her in conversation she hung up on me. Government grants etc???
All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

  • Received a call from Energy Review Team today - automated call first offering a free boiler, so I responded to request more info so I could find out who was calling me. Nothing was connected after pushing the right response so I assumed that would be the end of it. However an hour later I got a call from one of their live advisors. I let them know I subscribed to TPS so they shouldn't be calling me and they hung up. Just putting in a complaint to TPS and the information commissioner now.

AFAIK the free boiler they were offering is legit (I work in the energy efficiency sector) if it's part of the governments Affordable Warmth scheme which is part of the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO). You need to be in receipt of certain benefits to qualify though. These organisations make outbound calls to find vulnerable households that could benefit from the scheme, then sell on the clients' details to service providers like heating companies to do the surveys and installations. A good scheme, but can be annoying if you don't want to receive marketing calls.
  • I just had a call from The Energy Review Team about solar panels, no outlay from us, the profits from electricity pay for the panels or something. Is it legit? We had a shade greener round a couple of years ago and they wouldnt do it because of our dormer, they couldnt fit the maximum number of panels on. I told The Energy Review Team and they said it shouldnt be a problem. Anyone else had this?

This may well be legit but, personally, I always refer back to the old adage, IISTGTBT, IPI.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I use the anglo saxon reply
  • I've also had a cold call today from the Energy Review Team apparently from the government telling me that I qualify for free solar panels.

I always get twitchy when people are asking questions about me and before she got my name, I'd already tried looking them up on the internet. When I challenged her about where I could find a website, she told me a weblink that didn't work, I asked again for their address and she went off to find her supervisor - all went dead for a while and so I put the phone down. Looks pretty dodgy to me.
Another IISTGTBT, IPI or for those confused...if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

These solar panel companies are very choosy about where they do their "free" installations.
The roof must be 1. facing virtually due South
    2. Of sufficient area to make the investment "sums" work
and 3. Not shaded by other houses or trees at any time of day.
  • is it more cost effective to buy solar panels or have the free ones where the installing company receive the money back from the generated electricity bearing in mind maintenance and insurance costs ie price of inverter if it fails
  • I've been receiving calls from this company for the past 6 months regarding solar panels and every time I have informed them that I already have solar panels and have done for the past two years. This has resulted in various responses such as hang ups, we'll take you off our 'system' and even a "look love, we haven't rung you before because we've just come back from our christmas break love". I also am putting a complaint with the TPS (which I'm also registered with)

My view is that all cold callers are dodgy and wouldn't touch them with a barge-pole. They flout the law by calling people registered with the TPS.

Why would anyone think of doing business with someone you know is dodgy.

If you are interested in solar panels, double glazing, whatever, get some local recommendations and do your own research and you are much more likely to have a positive outcome.
  • Usual cold call. Name given was Kirsty, she wouldn't give surname and sounded scared when I asked her. A "manager" named Michelle Smyth hung up on me when asked company address. Further call to Alan (who wouldn't give surname or company address) was no help.
    KEEP CLEAR OF THIS LOT
