On the other hand the summer nights last forever. Sitting on my back decking with a beer at 10 at night in bright sunshine can't be whacked. Even at 11 it was still light enough to read.
Having lived in both cities, I know there's far more difference between a good area and a bad area in the same city than between the two cities on average. In the end though a back of an envelope calculation showed me that I'd need a wage of £75,000 to afford the same house in the same kind of area as I can get in edinburgh on less than half the wage...the job specs though only seem to offer £10K extra for dragging myself down to flatland so I'm staying put0 -
The summer nights may be light be they are usually not that warm either...
I agree about the salary - I'm in the process of buying a nice spacious flat in a good area in central Edinburgh. If I moved to London, even with a salary increase I wouldn't be able to afford central London and probably wouldn't be able to afford anything that good in outer London either plus I would spend a fortune on transport.
The only two things that spoil Edinburgh for me are the weather & Edinburgh Council but I'm sure London has its fair share of useless & corrupt local authorities as well.0 -

each to their own of course but one other factor about London.
many young people find that they can find jobs offering much higher levels of responsibility at a much younger age.
in the provinces it's sometime 'dead man shoes'0 -

For two generations, now, there has been no concept of spending less than you have. If you have £2, then you must spend £2. Or more if possible.
If the question had been "You borrow £150 from Wonga. How much do you pay back in 28 days?"..........
Easy, you just go and borrow £300 from that company with the aliens in its advert, pay two thirds to Wonga and spend the rest on something nice.0 -

You forgot to mention the English tourists and English students.0 -

"Grim. Run-down, poverty-stricken Lancashire mill town that scuppered its own best chance of economic progress and regeneration by playing host to the BNP and, inevitably, race riots. Avoid."

And I also own a property already, thank you and good day.
Don't knock Burnley, its my home town, even prince Charles supports the town. Major regeneration is on the way. There are some good areas to live In the town. If you buy a 20k house you will obviously be buying crap. Good place for btl. There are a lot of races, but if your not racist it won't matter. Stop being a snob. Until you have been there, you have no opinion.

Why live in Burnley when you could live in Bury.. You can get an ok 3 bed house for under £100k
Much easier for travelling into jobs in central manchester..0 -
447 properties in Burnley, all for less than £60,000
Stop dreaming and get on your bike Rugged.

I've worked in Burnley and experienced the Town, and quite frankly, I think it might be a shock to a Southern Softy :rotfl:
It was a shock to me, and I'm from Miseryside.0 -

I did knock it, but then I had to share an office with a member of the BNP, and it really really made me angry that a proportion of the population actually hold down jobs, and are free to spout such racism. Plus I met alot of people who were just angry.0
