Opinions on new stairs

Considering stairs for my new build. I dont want anything as traditional as wooden spindles, but dont want anything too modern, nor the expense and cleaning required of glass.
The stairs are straight, so I was thinking of a combination of these.

Is drywall cheap and/or tacky looking. It would be majority drywall, with smaller glass panels and rail running along the top. Actual staircase is likely to be oak.
Opinions please?

I think simple drywall is under rated for stairs. If you want clean lines, then you can hardly beat it. Those staircases look great.
Modernism. Not tacky.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thank you Doozergirl
It is quite difficult to find examples online, and most projects seem to be getting rid of drywalls! I think they are a nice alternative to spindles.0 -
These do seem to look best in a matt white paint. Which isnt so practical with little hands about.0

Any children, now or in the future? Children use the walls to clean their fingers!
Depending on your lifestyle you need to decide on design over substance or vica versa. Take the long view.0 -

Yes, 18 month old - probably be 3 by the time we move in. Hoping for another. I see your point, but they wont be that age for ever, and I expect it wont look any worse than the rest of the walls in the house
But wood would definitely be much more practical in the early days0 -
We are also looking at a new staircase. We were told you have to have a bannister of a certain height on the room side so no-one can fall through. Building regs. So that first one may not (strictly) qualify?
If ours wasn't a partition wall, and we could afford it, we'd love a floating or central spine wood staircase. Ours is boring and we have to look at it every day. I think you're right to look for an aesthetically attractive one.0 -

Would definitely not have it that height - I meant I would have it that shape but combine it with the glass and chrome that is on the curved stairs.0 -
Glass and chrome look lovely on a staircase. The bill for the glass doesn't look so lovely though
Good luck with it. A good one can transform a room.
We got quoted £2500-3000 for a (non glass) new wood open tread (no riser) dark wood staircase. If we could've done it, we would have, as it would transform our small flat.0 -
As mother of three lads, one teen & the others in training, look for for easy-to-scrub as well as easy on the eye?
