Any Suggestions for a cheap DIY (dismountable) sofa?

Options
I have been a real recluse for several years and my living room is setup only to cater for my work- sitting in front of the computer all day.

recently Ive had ppl back on a cpl of occasions and it was kind of awkward/inconvenient that there were not proper seating arragements.

I would like some kind of a 2 seater setup

But a proper sofa is such a hefty item and i woudlnt use it when guests arent present so it would be a huge waste of money and space for that. I like to keep it uncluttered when i dont have guests and id still just be working in front of my comp most of the time.

So any suggestions on how I could make something I could easily dismantle when not in use, on the cheap?

Like an ad-hoc 2 seater that could fit in the cupboard when not in use?

Since im not much of a decorator my mind will require a few suggestions thrown at it before i get any spurts of inspiration.

How big a cupboard do you have?

And there are soft furnishings that make a cube and unfold, or these ones which are rigid

Do you mean you've had people back on a couple of occasions?. What about folding directors chairs or similar.

an inflatable sofa would fold into a cupboard but it depends if you want that look when you do get it out! Did you know the people were coming over in advance or was it a last minute thing? I don't think you'd be happy dragging a foldable/dismantleable sofa out of a cupboard in front of guests!
Do you need a sofa or would a couple of armchairs/footstools work? Have a look at ikea for ideas ....

Folding chairs would work well as previously discussed - How about a bunch of floor cushions or beanbags instead? Would that work?

do you need to "impress" these people? Are they people you'd have over regularly or different each time?
I have very little furniture in my LR at the moment - when I last had visitors I simply said "'scuse the lack of sofa, I am waiting for the new one to be delivered" - haven't actually bought the new one yet but .....

For a few minutes you had me wondering what it was used for, then I realised you meant one you could dismantle.:D

If you want folding chairs, how about garden furniture?

    Good and relevant questions.

Its actually specifically for girls when I have 'dates' with them.

I am not too bothered about 'impressing' them but i want a two seater setup for sure and one that isnt so off the wall it would raise too much attention. Also 2 seater so i can sit next to the girl and work the moves on them when the time becomes appropriate.

And yes since it was a 'date' i would have known in advance they were coming so setup time wouldnt be an issue for beforehand.

  • I think inflatable sofa is best suggestion so far but would want to find one that doesnt look too tacky looking seen one or two in matt black which seem a lil classier.

    any other suggestions welcome.
