I'd try to sell the "business" as a going concern on ebay or perhaps Daltons weekly: http://www.daltonsbusiness.com/

Expect to have to do some work proving the viability of the site as a business.

Assuming it's been actually published, make sure it's submitted to all the search engines and that it's search engine optimised (SEO). Obviously if it has a good page ranking then that's a plus to any potential buyer.

Also make sure it looks as good as possible, layout and graphics. It's worth getting other peoples opinion on that.

As has been said getting links to your site is a v.good idea but it's not actually live, no members or offers, then that's not going to be easy. Don't get links from "link sites" as they tend to be of low quality and can be worse than having no links at all.

Ideally you want to make the time to go live, get all your offers in place and a membership base, much more appealing to a potential buyer.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I will devote some time to building the site up as a ongoing concern before selling. I think that way I will get a decent price for it when I do sell.

Do you mind sharing the domain and price you're looking for?

    Hi

I do not mind, but maybe it goes against MSE rules, but then again there is very little content and the site is not operational... cashback-engine.co.uk - please copy and paste - mods, please note I have not used a live URL

    I would say do this:

Make a nice neat portfolio highlighting features and anything else you can think of and make a link for it on your website - e.g. http://www.ublam.com/profile.html (I did this when I was selling my website)

Then I would recommend first advertising it on digitalpoint site-sale forums because it's free ( http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52 ) and posting the link of your portfolio on there for all to see. This way you can see what people think, how much the site may be worth etc.

You can also put it on sedo, I think they take a percentage of every sale but it's free to advertise on there (I think) so you haven't got anything to lose. You never know, you might get a really high offer.

Then you can create an advertisement on on SitePoint (which will cost a small fixed amount) and then through forums, or by emailing people who you think may be interested, forward the link of the SitePoint advertisement.

Ebay is always an option but your site won't sell well if you just create a listing and leave it there. Where ever you decide to sell it, be it SitePoint, Ebay or anywhere else, just try and go where ever you can (forums etc) and draw everyones attention to the sale by pasting the link for the listing.

But I've only sold one website so keep asking around :)

I agree with McKeeley. Get a load of high backlinks...manual submit to the main search engines for 4 to 6 weeks and you could have decent traffic. Even if you have no income if you can prove your traffic on sitepoint you'll get good money for a site. Digitalpoint is a good place to buy backlinks from peoples high ranked sites. You'll also need to get traffic facts added to your webhosting as this will give you a daily number of hits to your website - sitepoint buyers will demand this info I'm afraid.
