You can buy frozen cabbage. Use as much as you need for one meal. I find frozen veg is better steamed than boiled.0

More of a problem, I find, is the infuriating 'Buy One for X buy two for X plus 10p' offers.
I don't want two loaves of bread, nor two pineapples, nor two whole chickens (and yes, I do have a freezer - two in fact - but most are full of my own garden produce).
I also object to the huge premium placed on small sizes. I realise packaging costs are higher, but the difference between the price of a small loaf and a large one, or a small tin of beans and a big one, seems out of proportion and very unfair on people who simply don't need (or can't afford) larger sizes.
That said, I think it's a bt harsh to blame Mother Nature for the size of a cabbage!0 -

It is very difficult to divide the pack into 2 or 3 as the faggots are not evenly distributed in the foil tray and sometimes cannot see them at all. Once I ate all 6 and was feeling very full afterwards
None of the local butchers sells faggots.
I like cabbage, but if I buy one, I eat it for 5 days and I get bored of it.
You need a flatmate who shares your love of faggots.Did you realise that faggots now contain palm oil and recovered meat products making them one of the most fattening foods on the market? The Chinese import 35pc of UK faggot production using them as dim sum
Brain's Faggots contain 4.5% fat so where do you get this idea that they're 'one of the most fattening foods on the market' ?
Here are the ingredients:
West Country Sauce (62%) Contains: Water, Lard, Wheat Flour, Modified Maize Starch, Tomato Puree, Salt, Colour (E150c), Yeast Extract, Sugar, Onion Flavour, Spice & Herb Extracts (Celery).
Pork Faggots (38%) Contains: Water, Rusks, Rehydrated Pork Rind, Pork Liver (15%), Onion, Pork (4%), Pork Fat, Wheat Flour, Salt, Sage, Spice Extracts

There's definitely no palm oil in that list. The rehydrated pork rind, pork and pork fat might be recovered so I'll reluctantly concede that point.
As for your last point about exports to China I'd be very interested in seeing a link to verify that statistic.0 -

That is extreme single living! One room, no freezer? I can see why you're finding it difficult. I never got cooking for myself sorted until I moved into a studio flat with a decent-size kitchen - proper cupboard space, fridge and separate freezer. It's going to be difficult without that.0 -
I know this is a bit of a long shot but do you know anyone around who keeps chickens? They would be very grateful of any veg you can't eat and you could exchange for eggs. I keep chickens and one of the ladies at work brings her past its best veg for them and I give her eggs in return. E everyone wins that way and you could increase your food variety.January grocery challenge £0/£300

Many of these offers you have quoted, you don't have to buy 2 pineapples as there are other things on the same offer! Many customers are duped into you HAVE to buy everything the same! I know in Sainsburys the 2 for £3 applies to anything in the produce department. So you can get a bag of apples and a punnet of TTD tomatoes for £3.
I buy the large tins of beans stick half of the tin in a tuppaware box to use in 3-4 days time.0 -

Wonder how much is lips trotters ears and tail ?0 -
Oh my god, don't get me started on this!! I never ever buy bread cos even the mini loaves I can't finish and I hate to see things wasted.
I can't buy those lovely hunters chicken stuff you get in foil trays either cos there's two breasts in each pack and only one of me.
If I buy fresh chicken then I have to have that two days in a row otherwise it goes off.
I just think that no one really caters for single people, which winds me up something rotten!!!Broke Student :beer:0 -
What is wrong with lips, trotters, ears or tail? The texture of a haunch of flesh is one thing. When they are being minced together is there any significant nutritional difference?0
