free AVG

Options
Morning all.
I seem to remember that the kid(14-15yrs old)next door, installed a free AVG package into my old laptop about 2 years ago,and it was still active 2 years down the line. He has since moved away(I'll never forgive him Lol)and I have a new laptop, but cant find a free AVG pack that lasts longer than 1 month ;-(
Can anyone advise please, or put up a link.
Thx.
MUTTL

    Free AVG at http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage.
You could also look at Avast!, Avira or MSE. All free and pretty highly rated.

    Edit:
Don't know what AVG download/install also includes, but you generally have to deselect the "browser toolbars" and such that they bundle with it, if you don't want them. It's the price of a free product.
Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't throw anything else in, and has no annual renewal requirement, but if you're running it on XP I wouldn't expect it will get any updates after MS drop support of XP next year.

I use Avast now. AVG seemed to slowing my startup. And you had to download through CNET which added its own junk.

No direct download link on the AVG website. Has that changed?

AVG uses Cnet.com which adds potentially unwanted software including toolbars of its own to your download.

I would advise you to get Avast which is also free, very reliable and recommended by many users on MSE.
