Royal Mail privatisation... Would you?

Britain is the only country in the world that does not put the name of the country on its stamps
Based on what Wedgewood Benn said when he was Postmaster General, I understand that has been a sticking point, just like joining the Euro.
The Queen wouldn't allow it because she wants to keep her face on our stamps and money. Be interesting to see what conditions are laid down with regard to the Queen's face on the stamps.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
Another politically motivated privatisation. The idea that this will lead to a more efficient service of the same quality is advanced in cloud cookoo land. In the real world we will all suffer both financially and in terms of quality of service.
So privatisation is 'politically motivated' but nationalisation is what? altruistic?
Industry in public hands, industry in private hands - BOTH politcally inspired , just 2 sides of a philosophy.0 -

Interesting how the same website gives conflicting pay rate scales.
sorry,it related to my quote on the 'forked tongue' part
attaining £32K a year as a postie would take huge amounts of overtime over the year
The guys I know that do loads of OT make about £22-22K
there's a physical and time limitation on how much can be done0 -

Not that far short of national average full-time income, then. Not bad at all for an unskilled job.0 -

Agreed. But I took the comment to mean changing it from Public to Private ownership is politically motivated.
Still don't know if they have solved the problem of keeping Her Unelected Majesty the Queen's head on the stamps?“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
how to you work that out?
Which bit? That £22-23k is not far short of the £26k average, or that it's essentially an unskilled job? They dont get it handed for nothing
that involves 6 day weeks nearly all year plus doing extra most days
Roughly how many hours per week are we talking?0 -
-
couldnt really give a figure
say 8 for the day off
say 4 a day on extra
so a week of 70 hours or so?
Sorry, let me get this straight - you're suggesting twelve hour days, six days a week? Seriously? Frankly, I find that difficult to believe.
A quick google finds a different set of figures...

That's giving £23k for a basic 40hr week plus 6hrs of overtime, outside London, four years ago when national average was just under £23k. The settlement of that industrial dispute was 7% rise over three years plus a £1400 one-off bonus plus an hour less per week.0 -

Just twigged it. Thats presumably why they are keeping the Post Office in State Ownership. So they retain control of stamp sales, and the Queens face on the stamps, instead of the name of the country like the rest of the world?“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0
