I'm 19, according to 1st central insurance, I can drive other people's cars?
I just looked at my insurance certificate and it says the following that seems to make me be enlidgeable to drive other people's cars, (I am 19 and the policy holder)
Provided that the person driving holds a licence to drive the vehicle or has held and is not disqualified from holding or obtaining such a licence.
The Policyholder may also drive a private motor car not belonging to the Policyholder and not hired to the Policyholder under a Hire Purchase Agreement or leased, provided it is insured under another insurance policy, for social domestic and pleasure use only and with the consent of the owner.
Cover is limited to Third Party
Only, please see Section 4 of the Policy Wording.
Use for social, domestic and pleasure purposes only
. Limitations as to use
But excluding any use for hiring, commercial travelling, for any purpose in connection with the Motor Trade or use for racing, pace-making, speed testing, rallies, trials or competitions, Also excluding use to secure the release of a motor vehicle, other than the vehicle identified above by its registration mark, which has been seized by, or on behalf of, any government or public authority.

Well that's what it says and at your age is pretty unusual. If you want to be sure, ring the insurer and ask. If they say yes, make sure you get the name of the person you speak to and make a note of it, plus the time and date of the call - then staple the note to your certificate!0

Be aware that the insurance is third party cover only.
If you are involved in an accident where the car you are driving is damaged, there is no cover to repair it.
Do you really want the responsibility of driving someone else's car knowing that, through no fault of your own maybe, if the car gets written off in an accident then there is no cover for it unless the owner's insurance is for anyone to drive it?0 -

If it's through no fault of his own then, by definition, it would be the other driver's fault and their insurance would cover it.
Handy extension to have on a policy, and rare now for youngsters. Just make sure it doesn't give an age limit in the policy booklet. Technically it wouldn't matter if it does if the certificate doesn't mention it, but could create aggravation if something happened.0 -

You make a fair point, I just checked as well, I got my hopes up.Driving Other Cars (DOC) cover only applies where shown on the
Certificate of Motor Insurance, and is restricted to the
policyholder who must be 25 or over at the inception or renewal
of the policy. This cover is also applicable providing the private
motor car is registered, driven and insured elsewhere within the
UK. T

Which means nothing if the other driver drives away without stopping before you can get the number, or it was a car with no current keeper, and the driver runs away and cannot be traced. There is no insurance company to pay up.
Even an untraced / uninsured driver claim to MIB might not pay up in these circumstances. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

The earth does not belong to us.

In a perfect world yes, but unfortunately there's far too many uninsured drivers about.0 -

There would be a claim from MIB in this case, too.

The third party cover offered by this driving other cars clause is no different from the third party element in third party cover which you can take out (as an alternative to comprehensive cover).
ie. There is no cover for damage to your own vehicle.
This isn't news!0 -

I would agree but of those that do I wonder how many actually may believe that they are insured and are paying the premium but legally they aren't?
As from an answer I have received on another thread if you receive fixed penalty points, don't or can't hand over your license and it is more than 28 days after you were requested to produce your license, your license would be revoked.
It is a condition of most if not all policies that the driver either has or is entitled to a license that has not been revoked then they would be covered. Having a revoked license but still paying the premiums will still mean no valid insurance!0 -

Does the keyfacts override the policy?
