Santander 123 Account

Stompa,
For your information my account is up and running. I have received a link card and pin, aswell as online and phone banking passwords. Just waiting for them to confirm I won't be paying any tax (I filled in the R85 they automatically sent) and I can transfer some savings.
It has been hassle free.
Hope that helps.

Is Santander safe? I was telling my mum about this account and she said she had heard something about Santander on the news and wasn't sure it was safe. She didn't remember what she had heard, though, so it was all very vague!0

Santander is as safe as any other UK High Street bank or building society. Up to £85k per person is guaranteed by the FSCS scheme.
You can search the forum for lots more posts if you need more details.0 -
How do you mean safe?
Had my money in there the past few years. It hasn't disappeared. That's safe to me.0 -
I'm not sure what my mum was on about; something about a takeover or something?0

My parents have told me the same thing - Don't use Santander, its not safe! I've heard bad things on the news about spain and Santander.
I keep telling them the UK Santander is ring fenced from the Spanish version. They keep saying "But if the spanish version gets into trouble they'll borrow money from the UK version and not be able to give it back. Withdraw your savings now whilst you can.".
"Even if that happens, I'm still protected by the FSCS, upto 85K", and they reply "They'll say that until they lose money, then they'll be saying they can't afford to pay you back!".
At that point I gave up the argument.0 -
Hi, I've had a Santander123 account for a few years now and it's worked well for me, I have their c/c too and you get moneyback if you use it at certain places like department stores. Haven't heard anything about a takeover?0

That's how rumours start, lol.0 -
The only take over I've read about is the attempted take over by a group of computer nerds who attempted to attach a remote control device to a Santander computer. It didn't work as the staff were too suspicious and reported it. Police later captured the people responsible.
Another group tried the same trick at Barclays, installed a 3G router to remotely control a PC and managed to move 1.3 million before being noticed and caught.0 -
It was more something like another bank had taken santander over or something? i don't know what she was on about....0
