Post still coming to ex's house

If a couple have been split up for well over a year and the person remaining in the house has repeatabley asked the person who moved out, to sort out their post which still comes the house, is there any way that
A. The person that moved out can be made to stop using the address as the address for their business and still getting business post and calls put though.
B. That person can legally insist that they do carry on using their old address to run their business from.
I know some of this makes no sense, why would someone want to run a business not from their address/phone number, but just try to ignore that.

Well, they can stop the calls by getting their number changed, and if they just put 'not known at this address return to sender' on every bit of post it won't be long before the letters stop too.
Are you looking for something more 'official'?0 -
I'd start sending the mail back marked 'no longer at this address' - if the person who moved out starts losing business/money then it may give them a kick up the bum to get their address changed!0

Only yesterday, I received a letter for someone who moved over 5 years ago... some of it may not be the ex's fault.
There's a big difference between junk mail (where the mailing list may be way out of date) and more 'official' post where there is a legal requirement to notify of current address e.g. DVLA, HMRC etc
Return all letters to sender with note that addressee has moved. If you know the new address then advise the 'official' senders of that as well.
As to the phone calls, people keep business cards for years... records may not have been updated... there may be a simple explanation for most of the calls which does not involve your ex being responsible.
Again, any 'official' callers can be advised of forwarding details and asked to amend their records or put a block on contact to that number accordingly.:hello:0 -
The house is owned and the person who doesn't live there is complaining that they should be allowed to keep using the address.
It's complicated, but pressure is being brought upon the person that still lives in the house to allow it to continue, while they obviously don't want it to.
Is there any legal rules being broken in any way?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
The person who does not live there cannot use it as a mailing or business address without the consent of the owner/leasee, and has no legal right otherwise. If the owner/leasee does not wish the business to operate from that address, they should formally advise the business owner, and give them 30 days to make their arrangements (not strictly necessary, but reasonable).
Draft a formal letter, stating that permission to use the address/telephone number for business purposes is revoked. Advise that all callers will be advised that the business has moved, and all post will be returned to sender. In 30 days, change the phone number. No more calls.
Also advise that Companies House and HMRC will be notified that the business address is no longer operational. That might get the ex moving. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

does the ex using the address own it as well? The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50

Is the ex still on the mortgage or deeds?0

If the person who has moved out is still co-owner of the property they have every right to use the address, it's theirs too.
So, do they still own a share of it?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
If the person who still lives at the house is claiming any means tested benefits, it could cause problems.0
