    Thanks, I am not yet ready for that step. I do not have the Windows XP Disk for the computer, or any of the software for any of the programs installed that are useful to me. If it comes down to it, I may have to do this, but would try to troubleshoot the issue first.

    Which installed programs are useful to you?
  • In Control panel;
    Go to Device Manager and ensure it is enabled. If there is a fault shown then delete it and restart. It should find the hardware and load the correct drivers.

    Go to Network Connections and Manage Connections. Take a look at the settings and ensure that you are picking up your own wireless network and have input the correct password.[/QUOTE]

    I went to Fry's and picked up a Netis WP-2109 Wireless Adapter. Installed it, but have the same problem. I have checked Device Manager and there is not a problem. Network Connections shows everything is working. Still can't connect to the internet.
  • Open Internet Explorer.
    Click Tools
    Click Internet Option
    Click Connections
    make sure the 'never dial a connection' tab is checked.
    Click LAN Settings
    Make sure everything is unticked.

    click start > run. Type in cmd and press enter. Type in ipconfig and press enter. and make sure you're getting an IP address.

    As you got it at an auction, the first bit is to make sure it's not from an office and still set up for their connections / proxy servers.

    Have tried everything, but looking for a Proxy Server, and everything looks good. Getting an IP address. How do I check for proxy server?
  • Which installed programs are useful to you?

    The computer has Microsoft Office and other Microsoft programs along with Photoshop and other pay programs that I would have to buy to install them.
  • One thing I have noticed is that when I start the computer a black screen pops up that shows to be an AT&T support tool. Could this be the problem?
  • Thanks the problem has been resolved. There was a very outdated version of Norton in the computer in question. I downloaded Norton's removal tool, to a disk and put the disk in the problematic computer and removed Norton. After the computer rebooted, I was able to get online.
