Can't connect to internet with wireless connection

I picked up a Dell 8200 Desk Top, with Windows XP at an auction. I brought it home, connected my USB TMobile wireless internet Rocket. When I click connect the rocket shows to be connected. But when I attempt to go online with Internet Explorer I Can't get online. Using a different computer I put Firefox on a disk and was able to load Firefox to the computer in question, but I could not get online using Firefox either. :(

Do you mean a system restore? I tried System Restore, but it only goes back to September 4th, which doesn't help.

No, a factory restore restores the pc back to how it was when it left the makers.

On bootup press Ctrl and F11 and this should take you to the recovery options. It will format and reload xp.

******* And you will lose any programs / files on the PC.

    In Control panel;
Go to Device Manager and ensure it is enabled. If there is a fault shown then delete it and restart. It should find the hardware and load the correct drivers.

Go to Network Connections and Manage Connections. Take a look at the settings and ensure that you are picking up your own wireless network and have input the correct password.

Programs/Files? They just bought it at an auction, so I guessed that they haven't begun to use it yet.
Best to do a Factory Restore/Clean Install at that point.

  • Open Internet Explorer.
    Click Tools
    Click Internet Option
    Click Connections
make sure the 'never dial a connection' tab is checked.
    Click LAN Settings
    Make sure everything is unticked.

click start > run. Type in cmd and press enter. Type in ipconfig and press enter. and make sure you're getting an IP address.

As you got it at an auction, the first bit is to make sure it's not from an office and still set up for their connections / proxy servers.

Thanks, I am not yet ready for that step. I do not have the Windows XP Disk for the computer, or any of the software for any of the programs installed that are useful to me. If it comes down to it, I may have to do this, but would try to troubleshoot the issue first.
