It may be people would use the washing m/c, tumbler dryer, dish washer at off peak periods if there was a financial incentive.
.
A cunning plan called economy 7 tended to achieve a similar thing without the degree of investment or complexity - the timing could be relatively easily understood.
I appreciate it was a somewhat blunt instrument and that there will be peaks and troughs throughout the day.
Perhaps the smart meter could be set up to turn appliances on and off to maximise the cheap periods that would be responsible and a real step forward..
Sadly, like mobile phone contracts the companies will rely on you overshooting your contract cheap periods to level punitive charges when you stray outside them.
For those with deep pockets it will be less of an issue.
Tumble dryers are an interesting machine to be using if people are concerned for their CO2 footprint."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

indeed so

It is Mr Cameron who persuaded the energy companies to do away with 2-tier tariffs, and my gas bill increased by a factor of 6.
For people living alone in very small homes, it is not reasonable to have to pay two separate daily standing charges, especially when both fuels are being provided by the same supplier.
TruckerTAccording to Clapton, I am a totally ignorant idiot.0 -
Any particular reason why you chose that title when what is being considered is a 60% reduction in money printing?
The proposed notes will last 2.5 times as long as paper notes, so the reduced replacement need will cause that drop in money printing rate.
I had assumed that he would kick off with a one-off massive print job to send to the clearing banks as swaps for paper ones and ask them to hold onto paper notes for further 'swapsies'. After that, yes of course he will print fewer.
[Of course, I may have assumed nothing, and simply chosen the title as a deliberate sensationalist eye-catcher. When interest rates go up, I will create a post entitled "Interest Rate Rise causes Carneyage in the mortgage market..."]0 -

If I heard right on the news this morn, it said these new notes are not going to be produced here.
If this is the case that will be one more thing to add to the 'not made here' list.
That would be odd, since there is a factory in Cumbria which, as far as I know, produces plastic currency for export.0 -

You know what they say about assumptions."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

You mean free market competition hasn't proved how efficient it is apart from emptying wallets."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

as a matter of fact I don't
but the 'legally' binding targets of CO2 reduction and for the installation of 'smart' meters were introduced by labour and is presumably still part of their agenda.0 -

Perhaps Carney is trying to find all that money that circulates around the black economy and never touches the banks.
