Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto: Would you let your 6 year old play?

NoThe COD multiplyer I've played in the past does not show anything graphic, except for the blood around the edges of the screen showing you've been hit. As I said before, if the games were rated on multiplayer the rating would be quite low.
If a child isn't being exposed to gore, swearing, sexual themes and less blood then when they cut a knee, what harm will it do? It's like cowboys and indians for their generation. Boys are fascinated with zombies and gory things. Their own imaginations run riot. They talk and act out a lot worse than what's on multiplayer CoD.
MP is violent whichever way you look at it. Then you have the pillocks online who eff and jeff and use the N word every 2 seconds. Yeah you can mute them, but you need to remember to do that each time you join a new lobby or someone new joins the lobby you're in. A 6 year old isn't going to have the knowledge to be able to mute these imbeciles quickly enough.
It won't be so funny when little johnny gets sent home from school because he's called Dwayne a "punk a*s b*tch n****r" because thats what he's heard other people shouting down their mics, will it?
Sorry but if ANYONE thinks it's OK, supervised or not, for a 6 year old to play CoD you are, quite frankly, a mentalist.0 -

Multiplayer as in both on the same playstation, split screen, not in a lobby playing against racists. I agree it would be idiotic to allow a young child to listen to that. I don't think it's idiotic for my son to be playing it against his own mum. I teach him to be caring, kind and helpful. He's a sweet loving boy, and his 'attempt' at playing with me on that game once in a blue moon hasn't damaged that attitude in the slightest. He saw and heard nothing that would damage. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

Before playing did you look at the age rating and did you play the game alone first?0 -
NoI've worked in the games industry for 16years, and it dismays me that people still pay little attention to the ratings system.
I dont think playing GTA is going to turn a child into a psycho path, but by the same token there is absolutely no benefit in allowing a child to play it, it can only be detrimental to allow a child to play adult rated games. Parents should consider games in the same way as films, and most sane parents would have their small kids watching 18cert games.
In this day and age games visuals are way beyond what they were when I was growing up, the representation of violence or sex is far more realistic. In short, I'd adhere to the age ratings wherever you can. sure once your kid is 15/16 its harder to police, but there is a huge difference between a 15/16 yr old playing an 18cert game and a 6/7 year old
There are so many great games out there aimed at younger kids that its best to leave the adult games to the adults0 -

Of course. I'd had it a few years before he went on it. Played the missions, which obviously I won't let him play on as that's where the high rating comes into play. I've also played with friends on co-op , offline and online multiplayer, so I know all aspects of the game. He's only played two or three times and that was a while ago. He prefers lego games. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. Fair enough. You say of course, but plenty don't.
Lego games are better anyway0 -
NoYup, the lego games are great, especially for kids.
It is hard for parents to keep up these days, films, music, games, internet, so many things kids want to get into and not always suitable. Thats why the ratings are a great guide, though I know from experience its not always to explain that to a 12yr old0 -

Nah. You just make a chat party and stay in that so you dont hear game chat. Its something I do personally because I dont want to listen to the foul mouthed ones (or the ones who feel the need to let you listen to the music they're playing).
On xbox you can also adjust your kids profile settings so they can't get voice communications or can only hear voice from people on their friends list. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Well we can all live in hope eh? :T
Maybe that'll stop you posting b0ll0x on these forums and reporting all and sundry when they disagree with your [generally] obnoxious posts.Remember Occam's Razor - the simplest explanation is usually the right one.
