You'd have to be pretty stupid as a parent to think these are OK. They're nicotine and as such are highly addictive. The sooner these are regulated the better. Not that I'm against them - personally I think they're far better than fags - just not for kids.

I still don't think it's OK for kids, but just to point out most of the "e-juice" flavours are nicotine free.
  • Nicotine free , there is still concern about inhaling the particles produced by vaping as foreign body particles in the lungs are , in themselves, a health hazard. Also many people develop sensitivites to some of the carriers in e cigs.

They have their use as a temporary aid to stopping smoking. They are alot better than cigarettes but they are not without their hazards and should only be regarded as an aid to stopping smoking ,not as a replacement for smoking. They are by no means a "harmless" product suitable for childrens use.
  • ive not seen or heard of any children using ecigs in my area but im sure some do. I certainly wouldnt want my 12 year old using one but id be a lot more angry with him him if i found out he'd been smoking real cigarettes or drinking alcohol.

Im an ex smoker and started using an e cig in 2009, back then it was fairly rare to see anyone with one, i used to get a lot of interest in it back then, now its very common, with a local shop opened that specializes and also various other shops selling liquid and kits etc. Maybe there are health implications long term, its too early to know yet, but its without a doubt a lot less dangerous than smoking tobacco. I recently had a health check at my gym and my aerobic ability was in the "elite" category ,granted I keep myself fit, but i also vape a lot, so it it obviously doesnt effect my fitness.

Im just waiting for the government to stick their noses in pretty soon, Id welcome restrictions on the sale of e cigs to under 18's but any tax slapped on them would just be a way of them recouping lost tobacco tax. it would prove they dont really care about our health.

The nicotine causes the addiction, the other chemicals cause the cancer.
    I'm not convinced that
    A, Nicotine is that addictive
    B. It's totally the nicotine in fags that cause addiction

I am much much less addicted to my ecig than I was fags, although I'll happily admit I still want it, I'm not really sure I still need it and I've gone for a day or 2 without being bothered about using it.

Coming off fags onto ecigs, showed me it was far more than just the nicotine I was addicted to. The ecig gave me the nic, but I missed far more than that.

    1. Is vaping safer than smoking?
Yes but it would be better to do neither.

    2. Should children be allowed to vape?
No. Not even nicotine-free vaping should be permitted for under 18s.
Quite right, I will add an "however" though. And that is that no matter what young people are told about how bad smoking is for you, they still do it.
So if I had the choice with my kids, I would prefer they vaped, of course I would really prefer that they did nothing at all and had more sense than me to never start any sort of addictive substance.

I don't believe for one minute that anyone is going to go from vaping to smoking and I suspect anyone that has smoked then vapes will tell you the same thing.
Even for me, going back to smoking is an unthinkably disgusting idea, just the thought of how horrible fags taste is enough to make me feel ill. If you'd never smoked it must be like night and day, vaping tastes good, smoking, frankly, doesn't.

So in conclusion, yes obviously vaping should only be for smokers, but if we could stop a generation of children smoking by giving those interested in trying smoking, a nic free ecig, frankly we would be crazy not to.

Ecigs really are the only things that have ever come along that have the possible power to almost eliminate the smoking of tobacco completely. IF we are sensible about them and don't start seeing monsters where there are none.

I heard they're going to be banned from under 18s but the law will take 2 years or thereabouts to come in, ridiculous how long it takes.

I think it's because it's part of the Tobacco Products Directive, it's all due to come in at the same time. (whatever they eventually decide)

But, all respectable (and I would say all are) vaping shops already don't sell to under 18's and when have you seen an under 18 having trouble getting hold of real cigarettes?

It will make little to no difference and people who are making such a fuss about the age limit are making a mistake. You manage to stop fags being available to under 18's and you would have reason to worry about ecigs being legally available to the same.

I agree in the respect that kids get hold of them anyway, but its sending the wrong message at the moment to have no limits put on them.

    Thanks all

So these pens are potentially just water vapour and some sort of flavouring? no nicotene? althoguh you can get nicotene variants?

That makes me wonder even more about what the point of this exercise is, but teens are a world to themselves anyway
