advice needed

I really need some advice please can anyone help. I have a 23 year old son who suffers from phycotic depression and also takes illegal drugs.he has stopped taking his medication and is having an episode. yesterday my husband recived a phone call from his girlfriend asking could he go to fetch my son as he was threatening her. my hubby fetched him back to our house. for 4 hours he was saying he was going to kill this person and another person. at 3 pm my 16 year old son walked into our house from school and my 23 year old son cheased him out to the street and attacked him. my 16 year old suffered a nasty cut to the head and has a brusing the shape of a hand print around his neck. we dragged my 23 year old into the house and my husband took my 16 year old in the car within 5 mins my 23 year old son was trying to glass my 20 year old daughter in the face but I jumped in front of him and phoned my husband to come and get him out of my house. we have reported it to the police but they said nothing can be done as its a family domestic but I am afraid as he is a danger to himself and the public at the moment. what can I do

We are not the people you need to be talking to, you need the police (999 next time he is violent) and any mental health teams he is known to. He might need to be detained:

Did you tell the police he has a history of psychosis? If so, theirs is a staggeringly neglectful response.

How are things now? Do you still feel in danger? If his behaviour is still out of control, try to take him to A&E, or call an ambulance. I feel for you I really do. How frightening and upsetting. I think this is a case for medical help, not the police. He'll be sectioned if need be to protect you, your family and himself.

The police can detain people under the mental health act (they often have to, as its not safe for the medics) and take them to hospital even if they haven't committed a crime as such.

Have you tried to contact the local mental health team?

Who did you speak to when you called the police? What number did you ring?

What else did you say to the police? Were you refusing to press charges, or didn't the police allow you to do so?

If the latter, that is disgraceful. Police attitudes towards inter-familial violence should not be to dismiss it as family DV and you should take it further with them.

I agree with the others about mental health teams.

You need to do this. It is their job to deal with him. Some police forces also get involved (Panorama last night followed Hampshire police and showed how they dealt with mentally ill people).

And what exactly did you say? I find it very hard to believe that they wouldn't attend a violent incident unless you really downplayed it.
