The figures dont have to be bang on accurate (I thought that to!) just put whatever the latest statement says and the date that thats applicable for, the OR will be able to get exact figures.

I'm going to get mine done very soon so that I dont have to do anything the night before other than relax (as if!). The thing im struggling on at the moment is where it says what was the debt for?? In most of my debts I dont have a clue!

    Cheers for that Claire...

Still confuzzled on the bank acc situation... may just pop into Nationwide tomorow get it open and tell the OR that i opened this for my wages which get paid on the last day of the month. Then again I could well change my mind yet again... its like the wind at the mo!

One thing I am set on is that I need to get this dirty deed done and over with so Monday will be the day, I will tell you all about it I'm sure...

    Hi Onit,

The only thing you can be certain of when you're in your position is uncertainty.

Try and turn the tide and make other things certain:

    1. If you've been advised to declare bankruptcy by one of the Debt Charities then you can be certain that that is good advice.

    2. It doesn't really matter when you open a new bank account; we did it after the court hearing, others did it before. Another certainty.

    3. Can you have your salary paid into a friend or relatives account; we did that and there was no pressure to do anything with a new account until after the "deed was done"; except of course, extracting the cash from a daughter who thought all her birthdays had come at once

That's four cetainties in a very uncertain world, so not bad for a start. :D

If you do the dirty deed next week that's five; Onit, you're on a roll :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Please don't think this is a light hearted response and I don't understand your situation; believe me, I really do.

Go easy on yourself, you're in good company, no questions go unanswered.

    Hi all,

Please check this link at the top of the page

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=474254

these banks offer accounts for bankrupts. I am just waiting for mine to be opened with the Co-op. We are doing it before we go BR. As these are specialist accounts and if you tell the OR you have opened it especially for going BR to pay your bills from he will have no interest in it and the bank will not freeze the account until the OR says he has no interest in it,

EDIT: You got there before me Richard lol

    Hi Onnit,

my partner & I went BR last week, we were really worried about it, but then could not believe how easy it was we waited about 10 mins in the waiting room the usher came out and told us that we did not need to see the Judge as he was happy to declare us BR...phew, the OR then rang that afternoon and said she would call back the nxt day once she had the paper work from the court to conduct a phone interview, she rang the next day to say she had received the paperwork and everything was self explanatory so she did not have to do an interview...double phew... my main bit of advice would be write a covering letter when you hand in your petition detailing your circumstances, how stressful it all has been etc it does not matter if it is 1 or 3 pages long, i think this helped us a great deal in getting the BR granted so quickly and if you can explain yourself fully in the letter there will be less questions for them to ask.

Good Luck I'm sure it will go ok.

    Hi Jules,

I'm really interested in doing a letter, can you tell me what type of things you put in it? If it means you might not have to sit and answer questions with the OR then so much the better!

    Hi Claire,

I started off asking if they could take the contents of the letter into consideration when making the decision about the BR and just stated that we took our financial responsibilities very seriously and how we had contacted the creditors asking them to accept reduce payments etc but they refused, also advised in letter when we started getting into trouble and for what reason. Also mentioned we had a £60 surplus showing each month that we felt we needed to keep as a contingency for any unforeseen bills. (as i thought that this may be a problem)

I also advised that we could not see our situation getting any better in the foreseeable future and we were getting ill from the stress etc and we have a car (although only worth about £1300) so stated the reasons why we need to keep it (for me it was my partner getting to work & newborn child)

i ended the letter with the following:

'I thank you for your time and hope that you can see bankruptcy is something we take very seriously and that we have thought and discussed this in great detail and feel that this is the best and only way to resolve our financial situation.'

So I would just put anything in the letter that you feel may help explain more fully your situation or what is not explained fully in the petition.

    Hope this helps you!

    Jules
