Onit, sit down and take a deep breath. The lovely people on here will help you through it, I know they did me. I was very low when I first came on this site for help and with their help I managed to file for BR within 2 weeks of making the decision. Do not compare yourself to your friends, the first thing to do is to seek proper advice through the cccs or CAB as you will be asked if you sought advice before going BR. BR may not be the answer for you but if it is, keep coming on here as all the regular posters on here will give great advice or help.

    Chill chill chill!

    Deep breath.................

Is there anything specifically you want to know?? I know thats a bit of a daft question because you ll probably want to know EVERYTHING!

have a look at my thread what you need to know before you go bankrupt, and wherediditallgo's "path to enlightenment" thread, these might help and provide some answers (and probably raise more questions if your anything like me)

And if you're still stuck come back and post again someone will help!

    That's ok!

Well Ive been advised (and am going to) open a Co-Op cashminder account after BR, someone told me that if you tell then you need your account number asap for your salary to be paid into then they will get it sorted quickly, which put my mind at ease. You could open it now but of course it will be frozen, what you need to think about is what date you are going BR on and what date you get paid in relation to each other, i.e. I get paid 27 june, direct debtis will be out by 5 july, BR day for me is 6 July, (so can withdraw all cash out on 5th 6th to live on) will open cashminder on 6 july, hopefully get account details by 9 July, can give these to work, get paid again 27 July, can then ring all places I need to set up a dd (i.e. rent etc), pay with new electron card and give them new bank details for dd's to be set up

    phew!

so have you thought about any of that?

It might be an idea to get a date for a couple of weeks time rather than next week, im not trying to put you off but you may need time to go through the forms, speak to CAB/CCCS etc, and sort things out.

    Cheers for that Claire...

Still confuzzled on the bank acc situation... may just pop into Nationwide tomorow get it open and tell the OR that i opened this for my wages which get paid on the last day of the month. Then again I could well change my mind yet again... its like the wind at the mo!

One thing I am set on is that I need to get this dirty deed done and over with so Monday will be the day, I will tell you all about it I'm sure...

Oh yes make sure you do! I've not got mine till 06 July so Im interested in all and sundry at the moment.

Still if I were you I'd leave it till after, that way you can walk out of court, into the bank, open account and its done and yours, if you do it now then you have to wait for the OR to tell the bank they have no interest in the account, and as I understand it the bank can then still choose to close the account, even if you have the one that bankrupts can have.

Up to you of course but I'd wait.

Have you filled in your forms yet?

  • Ohh i didn't know that about bank accounts. I've just opened one with Halifax and am having my wages paid there just to pay CT and my rent. Thought i could keep that after BR but seems not. Dam, just when i thought i was getting on top of things.

You probably will be able to keep it but it will probably be frozen and from what I understand it could still be closed (but probably wont be!)

I was told to get a fax number for the branch so that the OR can send a fax as soon as possible saying that he/she has no interest in the account, then it's up to the bank whether they leave the account open or close it.
