Getting Rid of Pigeons?

  • Getting rid of pigeons is very difficult. Pigeons are one of the most hated birds in almost all parts of the world. These poopy creatures poop all over the place making homes, offices, public areas dirty and smelly, not to mention slippery. It also gives some people breathing problems, especially asthmatic patients.
  • Physical deterrents are those that keep pest birds from landing and roosting. These include bird spikes, bird netting, bird repellers and others. Bird Spikes are an easy to use and economical way to keep birds like pigeons and seagulls off you're your home.

I wonder if the pigeons are as old as this thread?

Problem with feeding pigeons, The food they dont eat soon attracts the rats.

Parents neighbours used to feed the pigeons despite warnings and complaints.
They only stopped when their dog died and the new one got very sick soon after they got it.

Vets bill must have been a much better cure/warning than my parents could offer.

  • Pigeon extermination techniques are allowed mostly everywhere it is still not good to use deadly methods to get rid of these birds.

I dont think i could kill any of them.Although they are a pest and are dirty creatures i still couldnt bring myself to kill them.
I have managed to detour them from my yard to my garden where they get the dropped seeds from the small bird feeders,so i suppose this will go some ways to getting rid of them from near the house.

we feed birds but ended up with about 24 pigeons roosting on our roof every day. if we scared them they sat watching us from the roof and down they came again when the coast was clear. Eventually we made a cage with the bird food in it with netting too small for the pigeons. We stopped ground feeding except for a small amount very close to shrub roots. it took about 2 weeks for them to move out. it hasn;t solved the squirrels though. I'm still thinking about that. We want something that blackbirds can get into.

if you are suffering from noise, attacks, droppings etc then fire a small firework in your garden (not between 11pm to 7am) ...a rocket preferably...not at the gulls and they will go away and in addition if they nest nearby....get a fibre glass flagpole...10-15 metres and wave in the air and that will encourage them to leave an adjacent area.....however if they have nested then you could be breaking the law so its important that you do this before the nesting season which is mid-late may.

any other humane methods please make your recommendations
