Did he leave you the car? It might have been mentioned specifically in his will or fallen into a wider category of gift.

My father died in March this year and I was his executor. He left everything (except one specific item) to my mother. transfering his car into her name was a simple process requiring no more than a letter to the DVLA from me.

If the car is part of his estate that is gifted to someone else then the executor is duty bound to obtain a reasonable price for it, ie sell it to you at market value. Of course the beneficiary might be prepared to allow you to have it at a reduced price or gift it to you but that is a matter for the beneficiary, to gift the vehicle, and the executor, to ensure that its true value is properly accounted for.

It would fall into the category of gift, as he told me verbally that its my home and car as well, but not legally does that hold any weight. The car is not worth selling.
