Actually Chameleon it was my vet who told me that. Misty doesn't have fleas, she gets done with advantage as a preventative measure. Then if she does pick one up it doesn't last long :)

People have been making these claims for years but I've yet to see any strong scientific evidence to corroborate them. I've even had clients in the same street for whom Frontline doesn't work for one yet another it works absolutely fine! How do you explain that? As I said, it often comes down to not thoroughly de-fleaing the home.

A cat/dog who is regularly treated won't necessarily invite an infestation into the home so people "get away with it" but it doesn't take long for one to take hold and once it does people usually look to blame the product they're using rather than treat the root of the problem which is within the home.

I don't actually treat any of my animals, I just spray my home with Acclaim every 12mths in April and I never have a problem with fleas :)

I can't explain it hon. I've just always followed my vet's advice when it comes to flea and worm treatments. They have said it's better to change product every few years to stop the fleas becoming immune, so I don't know, they are the pros :)

My sister decided to try the new BM product which has the same active ingredient as Frontline. Poor wee cat ended up with a massive chemical burn on his neck. Yet, he was treated with frontline in the cat and dog home before she got him with no problems. It was a shame, he was all blistered and his fur all fell out. Took about 3 months for hm to get back to normal. Don't think she'll be trying that one again in a hurry.

BM as in Bob Martin?

I would never advocate ever using a product made by or endorsed by them despite whatever active ingredient they claim to use. Far ntoo many cats & kittens have died following treatment with Bob Martin products.

Fipronil is no longer patented to Frontline hence products such as Fiprospot and Effipro etc suddenly appearing on the market. I'm not sure I'd particularly want to use those either.

No I wouldn't either babes. But my sis doesn't use the internet, she's had a couple of lessons but it's slow progress, so hadn't heard the stories. As soon as she described the burn on his neck, I was like "have you used BM on him?" Of course then she was straight to the vet. 2 Months of antibiotics and steroids. It's only in the last week or two his fur has started to grow back :( Poor wee man.

Yes hon, she was lucky when you hear of the other things that have happened with those products.

This is him a couple of days after application. Got a bit worse than that, but couldn't get a picture as he kept running away, the sis has more on her phone, but the damage is clearly visible :(

Awww poor little mite. I've seen cases like him and many far worse, unfortunately. I really can't understand why Bob Martin still exists as a brand. It's shameful :(

  • yea we found frontline doesn't work at least it didn't a couple of years back we now use Advantage which still works I get mine online from Animed Direct

Have a look a Vet Uk - they're cheaper for Advantage and you get discount for buying two. There is a postage charge of £1.99 or free if you spend about £30, so may, or may not be worth it? They also have a loyalty bonus scheme so, if you order dog/cat food from there, it can mount up. Worth a look, maybe?

Totally agree babes, he was definitely one of the lucky ones. We're all campaigning and complaining to the licensees with regards to it. Just a shame that there's been little coverage of it in the press etc. Just seems to make internet news :/

I found Advantage doesn't work for my dogs so put them back on Frontline, which works fine for them.
