You'd also have to wait 3 months for DFS to show up :)
  • The weird thing about the P&O no booze on the cruise rules is that it only seems to apply going outbound from Hull. People were able to take bags of nice beer back from Belgium without any problems.

They probably assume you're taking them home, which would be OK according to their T&C's.

But it's very rare they do. Don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel with such a policy (hostels 30 years ago, yes).

I've stayed in a Mandarin Oriental hotel of all places that had that rule! I smuggled my empty champagne bottles out in case they found them!

Thats why any arguement about health and safety or drunkeness breaks down

Presume you mean DFDS, DFS don't go very far unless you give the sofas a good push ;)

Sounds a good deal - where to and how long do you get to stay? I suspect they make the money on dinner which is expensive on DFDS as I remember.

We go from Newcastle, includes a cabin for 2 nights (so no sofas involved. Sail overnight, transport into and out of Amsterdam, back to the ship and a cabin back.
We also have a little travel kettle which we can use in the cabin, which is worth its weight in gold with coffee at nearly £3 a go.

    Brilliant bargain.

Food is expensive, we have a meal before we go, take a picnic for the cabin, Have a meal in Amsterdam and buy sandwiches, cake for a picnic in the cabin coming back. I cant remember when I last bought food aboard.

This offer at the moment includes a free breakfast on the outbound Journey.

And if you are a smoker, there are designated areas INSIDE the boat, on P&O you have to smoke outside and only at the stern of the boat, which as a smoker I find a abit of a pain.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

As a regular traveller on P & O from Hull, both with a car and as a foot passenger the restrictions only apply to foot passengers.

Came to a head when there was a lot of trouble on the ferries. I have seen as many as 12 police vans waiting at Europoort to take off unruly passengers.

Not the problem it was (presumably because of the ban), but many take this route just to get drunk.

Much more civilised ferries to Holland from Newcastle or Harwich.

Did they only ever get trouble on the outbound (from the UK) leg? Since they don't seem to care on the return?

That maybe but you can still buy alcohol in the bars! Doesn't prevent drunken behaviour!

As the barperson does not have to serve you, I think that may do something to prevent people getting totally p****ed just for the sake of getting totally p****ed.

To call the crossing from Hull to Zeebrugge a "cruise" is also a misuse of the word "cruise" IMO.
