a friend of mine has a 52 zaffy 2.0 DTI, it run out of fuel, refilled now will not start.
i know its particuarly hard to start a diesel with air in the fuel system so bled the air out.
canister strainer is full of diesel, cracked the injector couplings open got diesel upto the injectors.
dragged it around up and down hills in 3rd gear not even trying to start.
squirted braidex easy start through the inlet manifold pipe post turbo, engine starts off key then with no accelleration what so ever stalls after braidex is stopped being sprayed.
anything ive missed to try and get this started?
im left woundering either injectors have gone or the brain on the pump has gone.

he has got AA covere with home start but as were going on holidy saturday he doesnt want to claim on it just incase we get it started and running, and it breaks down on the way down or down there or on way home.
he doesnt want to put it in a garage unless its the only way forward so im picking brains on idea for the moment.0 -
I think this is the case when the spill pipes were probably on their way out, but the owner didn't notice, and now there is a whole lot more air in the system, the spill pipes aren't sealing at all.0

You need a special trade secret tool to draw the diesel past the filter, or it will never start as the injectors wont open unless they have fuel, a right pain, the tool gets it started immediately. .

thats what i used to get the fuel up past the canister strainer a diesel primer, the injectors have got fuel going to them but im woundering if its enough pressure to activate the injectors to apply the diesel to the cylinders.0 -
If you have the tool, follow that guide, think it holds enough pressure behind the injector to signal the relay to open the injector relay .
I do know they are almost impossible to restart when they have been run dry and this Sealey V pump is the secret tool that many diesel techs have, that is after they have told you it was this that and the other.
It has to be left in line to hold the pressure, started, then taken out of line and started again.Be happy...;)0 -
Had a Frontera for a while, the guy working on it couldnt start it either. (Think they both the VP44 fuel pumps)
I found on a forum somewhere and subsequently bought one of these.

Also read somewhere you need at least a quarter of a tank of fuel in the tank.0 -
Air getting sucked in from the filter? Check the seals.
How much fuel have you put into the tank? I remember with the old Rovers you needed at least 2 gallons to prime the pump.
Direct feed to the fuel filter from an external bottle. You can see then if fuel is actually being taken in also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

there 3/4 tank of fuel. and i jerry rigged it to can of diesel, aswell to see if its taking it.
us used the primer handle to get it up and past the canister, the canister is now brimmed with fuel.
it gone into a specialist diesel center who plugged it in, no fault found in there so they are waiting for their main diagnostics computer to finish off its testing on another car.
will find out tomorrow.0
