Their words are that we were given the correct information about it being brick but there has been "a mistake in construction". They have so far just apologised and thanked me for bringing this error to their attention. They will apparently look at options and come back to me tomorrow about how they will proceed to completion.
Planning permission is for brick but built ready to be rendered and not bricked, so it is a pretty large mistake by someone.0 -
I just got told the chimney is now on, but on the plans I didnt have one. Cant argue with being given a few extra bricks for free though.0

If they offer render (and not brick as approved by planning) with freebies and you are okay to purchase, just make sure it has the required planning permission. I think TW will have to get one in such case.0 -

I see anything that wants painting as an additional cost and hassle that I can do without.
Bricks can also require maintenance, repointing etc. Over time they degrade, just like everything else. As the house is new it's pretty immaterial whether the house is brick or rendered as any maintenance is unlikely to be needed for quite a long time.0
