New kitten - insure or not?

A non pedigree kitten will normally be relatively inexpensive to insure.
Get some quotes and compare the cover.

Make sure that the cover levels are adequate and the excess fees are affordable to you. As stated before look for the lifetime cover to cover any ongoing illnesses.0 -
Definitely insure - even indoor cats can suffer health problems.

This is covered in more detail in my policy paperwork, but from the basic policy booklet:
"You must contact the M&S vetfone service if your vet practice is shut."
I also insure one of my dogs with M&S (and have ongoing claims, so can't move him) I queried this policy condition and what the adviser told me was that they may not pay the additional out of hours charge if they deem it not to be a true emergency, but will pay for the treatment. They don't expect you to call them before taking an obviously ill or injured pet in for treatment

Thanks for confirming this, I was most surprised they would make you wait to take a sick animal to the vets!
I still recommend pet plan, my vets also recommend them.If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
Thanks all. I have had a look and I am unsure now between More than and Petplan... what are your suggestions?
I also know somebody who has had their cat for 4 years now and never insured, however I am already anxious as it is and so insurance would give me peace of mind...
ps I have tons of pictures of her already but none of them on the pc yet, will upload one when I've downloaded them

If you can afford PetPlan - they are the best0

I can afford Petplan (maybe not their most expensive one though) but the excess is so high...

I have 5 cats with PetPlan and dog and cat number 6 with Argos Platinum.
All insured for 7k per year.
My PetPlan excess is 85, Argos exces is 65.0 -
What about John Lewis? I don't think they do lifetime cover...or maybe I don't see it...?London Fashion Week tickets, Clinique Facial treatment set (I see it as a win :P) Mario Power Tennis Wii game, Aura by Swaroski perfume, Theatre Tickets to 'A woman alone' :T, £1000 with Kerrang's Scream4Cash, Links of London Wedding Themed Bracelet, Chipmunk O2 launch party tickets, Adidas All In gig tickets, Water For Elephants Double Bill tix0

No idea about John Lewis, sorry - perhaps someone else will?
Have you looked at Argos Platinum?
They paid over 14k so far for my dog and over 5k for one of my cats. As those 2 have now "pre-existng" claims I was unable to move them over to PetPlan.
With so many insurance companies pulling out of pet insurance, wish all mine were with PetPlan but so far Argos was brilliant...0 -
I think I am torn between More than and Petplan. The vet fees More than covers for are higher than Petplan, for roughly the same price monthly..London Fashion Week tickets, Clinique Facial treatment set (I see it as a win :P) Mario Power Tennis Wii game, Aura by Swaroski perfume, Theatre Tickets to 'A woman alone' :T, £1000 with Kerrang's Scream4Cash, Links of London Wedding Themed Bracelet, Chipmunk O2 launch party tickets, Adidas All In gig tickets, Water For Elephants Double Bill tix0
