Is ITV Player a Load of Junk?

Nearly every time I try to use the ITV PLAYER I get buffering problems. The BBC IPLAYER runs smoothly every time, even with an HD picture, so it doesn't appear to be a bandwidth problem.

Does ITV just have a pretty useless server or is there another reason?

What are other people's experiences?

    Maybe that's their thinking. :)
Seriously, though, Doc Martin and, er, that's it.

    The ITV Player?

It's garbage. Across all platforms and boxes too. It streams at very low bitrates that are below SD picture quality, the app itself is unstable, and it is just generally very poor.

Apart from that, I haven't got anything bad to say about it.

I find iPlayer quite unreliable. It seems to fail often with "an Error has occurred" and I then need to restart the programme.

The only issue I have with ITV Player is the vast number of ads and no ad countdown.

Demand 5 is the least troublesome player in my experience.

I'm glad it's not just me. I'd only use it if I hadn't recorded a programme on my HD* recorder.

*For the avoidance of doubt, here I am using HD to mean Hard Disk and not High Definition.

Not in most people's experience. iPlayer is also one of the few UK sites which actually have the Catch Up programmes in HD.
    ITV certainly don't bother...

HD? Not really. It's only 720 lines.

And it's not that many programmes, either.

I wonder if the different experiences depend on the platform?

I am using TalkTalk Youview with Talktalk standard broadband.
