StartRescue or KwikFit - Breakdown Cover

Okay -- I need vehicle breakdown cover and doing some shopping around.

I come across StartRescue but their prices seem to be suspiciously low and i've only just heard of them, so any insight here guys? Google search doesn't seem to bring up anything too terrifying.

I've also read good things about KwikFit breakdown cover but they are more expensive.

So about £35 and £55 respectively.
Both seem to also include accident recovery.
Both home assistance.
Both vehicle cover, thus cover both of us.
Both seem to be very similar.

Only downside to both is they choose the recovery method, whether to a suitable garage or to my home (within 10 & 20 mile radius respectively) - would be nice to have the option of saying just dump the car on my drive and i'll deal with it from there.

We don't travel out of the country and are usually within a 20 mile radius of our home anyway.

Any experience you guys want to share which could help make my decision? Or insight i've missed?

  • Got start rescue for both motorbike and car recovery not had to call hem out but love the iphone app they use to pinpoint your location and 1 touch call facility
Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...

I've been with Startrescue for 3 years now.

Had to call them out twice. No issues. They sent a big truck that took my car and me wherever i wanted to go (home)

    Highly recommend them

To be honest, I would not use "KakFit" for anything - unless of course I was a criminal, wishing to offload lots of cash as part of a money laundering operation.

    AutoAid:
We will arrange help at the scene of the breakdown and will arrange and reimburse any call-out fees and labour charges needed to start your car.

So sounds like they will call out the third party, you have to pay the third party for their services and send the receipt to AI.

Doesn't sound very attractive to be honest.

I haven't used autoaid myself, but I have several friends who do, and have used their services. They can't praise them highly enough.

    I use ADAC
Full cover throughout Europe whatever I'm driving or riding

Not really competitive @£65 if you just want UK cover but just one trip over the water each year and it'd be worth it

Personally I use AutoAid nowadays and can't imagine anyone even contemplating KwikFit for this kind of service. Have they a fleet of recovery vehicles hidden away like the talents of their call centre jockeys?

They'll do what most of them do these days - have contracts with recovery firms to do the work for them.

Its why i stopped using the AA (that and the price) as they just send a Joe Local with a low loader out to pick my car up. I now use StartRescue at half the price and they use the same firm
