Kindle - which one?

I have a Kindle Fire for reading and to be honest I don't think I'd get another one. You can't create collections for books (although I gather there is additional software which will enable you to do something similar), so you just have a long list that can be sorted by title etc. I h
Apparently you can't create "collections" for newer versions of the kindle using Calibre and a usbconnection, Amazon apparently removed that
Instead it has to be done through the Kindle's buily in interface (touch screen and eink delay, no thanks).
That pretty much killed my interest in the new paperwhite which I had actually pre-ordered, as it's a really stupid thing and something that should be very simple to allow in the UI.
I'm going to get one of the new Sony PRS-T3's instead to replace my much loved (but ageing Sony 505).0 -
So you can't create collections on the Paperwhite either? That's good to know - I'll try to find a basic keyboard Kindle; that was the best one I tried and it's sad that mine gave up the ghost after several years."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I totally agree with you on the Kindle keyboard, it is brilliant. When I saw the newer (at the time) lighter weight one, I thought it looked good, but no, much prefer the original. Damned shame they don't make them any more, as I keep hearing of folk wanting e-readers with audio capability, and they just don't seem to do them, other than in tablet form.
I've a Kindle 3 (keyboard one!) screen's broken as well.
The replacements only cost £30-£40 and relevantly easy to replace.
I'm going to get a new screen some time soon.Laters

Apparently the only way now for the end user is via the kindle's own input
The cynic in me says it's probably a way for Amazon to encourage people to only buy books delivered by them (IIRC books bought and delivered to the kindle via amazon can have the collection done automatically, but it's done by Amazon).
The other part of me says it's probably just down to Amazon not giving a **** about the UI at the moment - I've played with my brothers Keyboard, my mum's one (can't remember the name, it was after the keyboard but before the paperwhite), and the UI on both feels incredibly limited/primitive compared to the Sony 505 I've been using*, which is surprising given the 505 is a fair bit older than even the Kindle Keyboard, let alone the newer models (it doesn't even have wireless!).
As I say when I read that I cancelled my pre-order for the new paperwhite as about half the books I read are in collections (I've got about 100+ collections and about 1k books loaded on my reader), so the lack of collections is a major issue for me.
*Which easily allows sorting by book name, author name, collection or date added - with the ability to skip to near where the book will be located (IE you can jump straight to opq).0 -
Just hoping I'm in the right place for help as I have searched and can't find the answer.
I have a kindle and have downloaded quite a few books. I am in the middle of one now. My Mam has just bought a new kindle today and I have registered to my account so I can buy and download the free books for her. I know that the books on my kindle will now appear on hers but the problem I have, is that the book i am currently reading is appearing on her kindle in the same place as I have bookmarked (half way through). If she starts reading this book from the beginning on her kindle will it reset to the beginning of the book on mine, if that makes sense.
Thanks for any help.0 -
Yes but I think you can turn that off so it won't sync between the kindlesHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Thanks - I wonder how I do that. I might just set up a separate amazon account so I can download them to each kindle.0

It will be somewhere in the manage your account section on amazon. Sharing is good as it means if you read similar stuff you can share costs of booksHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0 -
Thanks everyone for all your comments. I think I will hold fire :rotfl: for now - at least wait until the paperwhite comes out and see what the reviews are like!0
