There is an organisation, can't for the life of me think what it's called, you offer to host a tea party for 3 or 4 elderly lonely people in you own home, perhaps once a month or whatever suits you. Somewhere like your local Council for Voluntary Services, Age Concern or Help the Aged might know about it.0

Hard Pressed, you mean Contact the Elderly. I run one of their groups & can recommend them.https://www.contact-the-elderly.org/
You can also contact your local council adult social services & Age concer. I got the details of Contact the Elderly from my council who provide some funding for them & the local age concern.
I would also suggest contacting the warden of your local sheltered housing unit.
Whatever you do, I would recommend you think carefully about it, as one you start, it is a long term commitment especially if the person is an elderly shut in person. A little hope & contact goes a long way & it would be something you're looking to do for the forseeable future.
Goodluck:)"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0

If you go to church or if your children go to Sunday school..then perhaps this would be a nice place to start..you could have coffee and talks with some of the ederly..., get to know them etc
After a while you could spill your story of longing for an adopted grandparent.0

The above has also given me another idea.... if you decide to do a (Sunday) paper round or a leaflet drop etc...
You could take your children or just one of them along with you and you'll see just how talkative and friendly people are in striking up a conversation.
Especially with the lovely weather we're having, most of the older generation are out mowing their grass or removing the weeds, washing the car etc
On hot days you normally always have one or two offer you a cuppa (for you to have a rest) or a cold drink for your little one.
If you're feeling really brave you could even ask politely if it wouldn't be to much trouble for a small glass of water for your child.0

Assuming you get so distracted talking away to a lovely old person about their beautiful pansies (sorry about the old bit)...you could then look longingly at your child talking away to them and say that it has been a breath of fresh air to see them so happy and how it saddens you also too see how much your child is missing out on..., not having any grandparents... !
Perhaps thats over the top BUT you get the idea HOPEFULLY0

            Don't forget to ask if they've had a CRB check! 0 0

It's a lovely idea - I've been unofficially adopted by two families near me, and help out with things like babysitting. I have no children of my own; I am time-rich and do enjoy children but only in small doses. Let common sense and caution prevail though; there was a famous case in Italy a couple of years back, where a family adopted an elderly gent who'd advertised in the national press for a family to 'adopt' him, and it turned out he was a con artist.0
