Baxi Back Boiler Newbie Help!

Pra
Hello
I have just moved to a new property which as a Baxi back boiler installed. I do not know how to turn on the heating or the hot water. So far, I have managed to turn on the fire in the fireplace.
There is a thermostat in the hallway which does not seem to do anything. There is a panel in the airing closet with switches for central heating and hot water. Although I have switched both of them on, nothing seems to be happening. The radiators are still cold after an hour and the hot water taps are also running cold.
Is there something else I should be doing? Any help will be appreciated.
Also, does the pilot light (flame) always stay on? Should I turn it off during summer months?

This sounds very similar to the problems we had last summer when we moved into our house. I just hope however did the radiators in your house put the right size radiators in each room, all of our radiators where well and truely undersized, which I've recently rectified. If its anything like my Baxi Bermuda boiler, then you have a big grey button and a orange button you need to lie down in front of the fire, push in the big grey button and then use the orange button to light the pilot light.
My experience has been one of having to have the pilot light running, but when we're at work we have the gas off, as we're on 47kg LPG cylinders and I don't see the point in burning gas while we're out, although it would be nice to come home to a warm house, you make sacrifices where you have to. Likewise we've put the boiler on a couple of times over the summer but just used the immersion to heat the water.
If you have the pilot light on then it should just be a case of putting demand via the heating control in the hall way, and if its a control box like mine then putting it to continuous should cause it to start heating.
Having said all this, its gas and if your unsure then its probably worth getting a gas safe plumber out to check it all over and more than likely say you need to buy a new boiler...
If its a baxi bermuda backboiler then I have a pdf copy of the manual on my kindle if you want to have a read.0 -
Is this an old baxi back boiler or a modern one?
if its an old one, the panel underneath the fireplace pulls away (this is where the boiler controls are), on that panel should be the instructions for lighting the pilot light. but from memory you need to push in and hold in the large knob and there is an igniter button, press it until it lights, hold the large knob for 30 seconds.
if it doesnt stay lit the thermoucouple is probably faulty.0 -

Thank you for your responses everybody!
@muckybutt. The instructions were really helpful. It turns out that there was a switch to the side which was hidden by a bookshelf. I turned it on and hey presto, I have heating!0
